Brexit has failed says Farage on 17:23 - May 18 by Gwyn737 | Not intentionally. Farage’s point was it was a rubbish deal when there was a great one to be had. My point is that there’s no great (or at least better) deal. |
Iy has been pointed out that the EU were playing a political game with no regard for the effect on their own people. They wanted the UK to fail to make a political point. it's not their job to do anything than the best for the people they represent but just like the UK politicians they are self serving, greedy, lying, hypocrites who do as they please and walk aroud telling each other how great they are.

If they believe (as do I) that being in a block of 27 countries is overall more beneficial than not, they’re right try a keep it together. I’m not sure at this point what the EU have lost by the UK leaving (outside the reciprocal stuff on travel, study etc). Brexit supporters love to compare us with EU averages, or pull out a single country for a comparison. My take on that is is that the limit of Brexit ambition? To be in line with the EU average of something? To celebrate because one country is doing equally badly? Doesn’t seem particularly ambitious to me.

Its almost like Johnson did not give a toss about working people. Who knew ? |
According to Kemi Badenoch it’s nowt to do with Brexit - it’s all to do with Covid impacting on supply chains and the conflict in Ukraine !!!! She must think we’re all thick as mince. She’s trotting out this party line of Covid and Ukraine when it’s clearly guff and she’s trying to deflect the blame from the mess we’re in. It’s clear to anyone with half a brain it’s 100% to do with Brexit, the motor manufacturers are telling us this themselves. The rules of origin are specific to the post Brexit trade agreement, they didn't exist before Brexit so to say it is nothing to do with Brexit is a fib. British based car makers could easily have achieved the 45% (55% from 2027) if we were producing electric battery packs to power the cars, but we’re well behind the curve and a significant proportion of the battery plant investments are going in to Europe.

There is no equivalence at all. Nobody on the remain side lied like Johnson, Mogg and Farage did. Brexit could never work. Not ever. And it never will. Its a dumb ass idea at its core. Stupid, untruthful and possibly Russian funded. We will see once we drag them out of power.

That wasn't the point though. We voted to leave, it was a democratic choice. Their job is to do the very best they can for the people in their Union. Going out of their way to make it hard for us isn't in their mandate. It shows how petty and controlling politicians are, all the Eurocrats are interested in is more power, they're no different to Bojo, corrupt, useless, lying, self serving.... | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The trouble with the Eurocrats is they have all the power and arr unaccountable to any voters. The EU president and her 28 Commissioners are all appointed not elected. If we don't like our leaders we can vote them out. We can't do that with the EU that is why we voted to leave. It is called democracy. It is certainly too early to say if Brexit has been a success, we have only been independent of the EU for a couple of years and Covoid and the Russian war have had more effect on our and the EU's economy than Brexit.

The uk had the opportunity to influence policy, held a veto in many important areas and was on the ‘winning’ side of votes 95% of the time (3% abstain, 2% ‘loss) since 1999. Out of curiosity, out of the times we lost votes over to 40 year membership, which of those laws would you say was the most detrimental to the national interest? [Post edited 19 May 2023 21:23]

The vote was flawed. If it was a mandatory referendum it would have been annulled. It only stood due to its advisory status. And we still await the inquiry into Russian interference. Hopefully Starmer will publish it soon.

Some fair points, but JRM’s bonfire of the laws would have given Ministers the ability to axe, change and and in some cases introduce laws without any scrutiny from Parliament - that’s outrageous. Some of those powers will still exist in the new reduced package of legislation.

Brexit has failed says Farage on 15:27 - May 20 with 781 views | Gwyn737 | As an aside, I’ve been at an U13s football tournament this morning and it’s incredible how so many of the kids have taken the word Brexit to use for something unsophisticated or unnecessarily aggressive. Eg Brexit tackle - wiping out an opponent with no intention of getting the ball Brexitball - route one Brexit boots - long metal studs Brexit pen - toe poke after a long run up. If you’ve got youngsters who play (even on FIFA) ask them about it. It’s common parlance.

The commissioners are appointed, not elected. Not a single person in Europe has voted for them. The PM is an elected MP (although technically you don’t have to be an MP to be PM). And as we’ve seen in recent years if a PM doesn’t have the broad support of his or her benches and parliament as a whole there is very little they can actually do. The EU commission has no such scrutiny and can just chuck directives around like confetti.

They are all elected in their respective countries. You can't vote in a German or Belgian election. Our Pm is chosen by the party, not the electorate. Yes, he's an elected MP, just like the MEPs are in their countries The 28 commissioners who make up the European Commission, the EU’s cabinet, they are nominated by member countries (each gets one) and approved by the European Parliament, which is directly elected by voters. This is similar to the United States, where cabinet members are nominated by the president and approved by the Senate.

EU policy is debated, refined and voted upon. We had a voice at pretty much every stage including a veto in some of the most imports areas which is why we ‘lost’ votes incredibly rarely. It’s also why we keep getting daft soundbites around bendy bananas and lbs and ozs because some genuinely believe(ed) that there was a little committee just telling us what we could and couldn’t do. Latest polling shows 55% for and 35% and it’s only going one way.

The cant deliver Brexit because they told a pack of lies to avoid Euroean tax laws that targetted the rich. When the lies hit reality then reality always wins. This oven ready Brexit deal is on Mogg, Johnson, Farage and Gove. On them. Not on the people who said all along it was hopeless. They were right, it was hopeless. Bunch of losers. 🇬🇧 They lied about control of uk borders. [Post edited 20 May 2023 17:40]

Actually, when we vote for a party here we know the winning leader will be PM. It's just been the tories recently who have changed leader more than you chnge underpants that undermines that but our PM is an elected person in their own country. If we are going to be ruled by anybody I much prefer it to be someone I have a choice in, not someone chosen by other politicians in cosy backroom deals. Von der Leyen wasn't even on the original shortlist but somehow, there she is.
