If the company didn't pay the full dues they should have then why should you suffer? That happened to me, I had to make up contributins for 1 year by 70 quid but it wasn't my fault. Why aren't they chasing the bosses/corporations/companies for this money?

Its a company pension scheme, which he has paid into and the company, but the company fraudulently siphoned off millions to prop up their Dutch Steel Industry, I must clearly be missing something, cause I can't see where the British government comes into it, granted the Government paid funded them regarding the environment. That has nothing to do with the companies pension policies surely Me and my wife and eldest pay into the the tax pot as well, along with everyone else who works, so don't feel as if you're on your own.

I was not bragging about it, I aimed it lightheartedly at Sandanista who said I would have enough for a bag of chips from my oap rise, which as I stated has left me £41 a week worse off. I worked for 42 years Continental shifts in the steelworks, let me assure you my pension is far from gold plated

In this area I can only speak for here. Migrants or whatever is the trendy word these days ( I’m an immigrant here ) never or very rarely stop here. There is no free support as such. This is not where they wish to be. We know where they are heading. Most get arrested and returned to one of the Spanish controlled enclaves in Morocco. Those that do get through head to France. So there isn’t a huge issue with people needing food here, it’s far cheaper overall than the uk, and if someone pleads poverty they are basically told to to get a job by locals. For Spanish nationals there is a welfare system, and there is a pay in for the health system and as an ‘autonomo’ a self employed person you get access to a pension. But the system is flawed, and anybody who gets involved in charity is always going to be close to corruption, fact of life here. There is a local food bank in Cadiz, there is very little homelessness because there is very little sympathy. I see the euro food bank is in Madrid, they will have more specific issues, but not as bad as Barca which I have to say is pretty poor and dangerous compared to other cities in Spain.

I'm kinda fuzzy on pensions but I suspect it's more to do with the class of NI paid. Some NI conts are worth more than others. We're in the midst of a major global financial and industrial restructuring. The Western World has had 30 years of cheap credit, cheap energy and cheap products from abroad. The War in Ukraine and Covid have thrown big spanners in the works of the latter two, and the increase in interest rates to deal with them have led to the former. Of course, there are those who point to Brexit as the reason, somehow failing to explain why countries still in the EU and the Euro are having the exact same issues but they're easily ignored. The single biggest problem facing the UK at present is the cost of energy, and there's lots of reasons for that, mostly down to the shortsightedness of various Governments who chose to make use of cheap energy from abroad rather than working to make the UK independent of it.

That’s a typical Brexiteer answer. Countries in Europe and the rest of the world are certainly affected but nothing on the scale of this country when you take energy, inflation and growth as a measure. Brexit is the single biggest driver to the issues in this country with all the other factors compounding it. You people need to stop lying to yourselves and accept that you were sold a pup.

Why is inflation higher in the EU than the UK? Why is unemployment nearly twice as high in EU than the UK is it because of Brexit.

The government have it within their power to cut fuel prices immediately. Oil, petrol, diesel etc are remarkably cheap on their own. But they slap a multitude of duties and taxes on it that makes the price two or three times more than it actually should be. This statement in a nutshell means we are going to paying more and getting less as services are about to be slashed. Meanwhile these guys a few days later are striking a deal to send billions to god knows where for the sake of the climate. I wonder how much of this money will be used for what it’s supposed to be used for or will it find its way inevitably into some tin pot dictators pockets? Oh for a British government who would actually work for the benefit of people living in Britain. They are squeezing us for every penny until the pips squeak but our public services are failing. Our roads are crap. People can’t afford to eat or heat their homes. And this is in one of the most developed, wealthy nations in the world. They are the problem.

It's down to the inequality of wealth, money needs to be distributed better, if we stick with England the amount of food banks is only going to grow, it's difficult to see England changing their ultra capitalist ways, I say England because they have the weight of numbers there are millions of them so we in Wales nearly all the time have to put up with what they vote for.

Yes money needs to be distributed better. I agree with you. I’ve used this example before, Tescos make billions in profits every year. Their profits doubled this year. Yet 99% of their workforce are part time on little more than minimum wage. You could say the same about Amazon, sainsburys, Asda’s, pretty much every big company out there. Making squillions in profits while their workers aren’t paid enough to heat their homes and put food on the table. It’s obscene. Then the final kick in the nuts is these companies get massive tax breaks while the workers pick up the shortfall in income tax rises, national insurance rises, fuel duty etc. I would argue that apart from Brexit (which they didn’t want to do in the first place) every single decision made by every single government for the last forty years the first consideration is “how will the markets react.” Not “will this help people”. Our manufacturing industry is virtually gone. We don’t have self sufficiency in anything. We’ve become a nation of call centres, insurance brokers and ursury. We’ve gorged on the bloated tit of cheap stuff from abroad but now that tit is running dry we’ve got no plan B. Parliamentarians of all governments, parties and nations don’t look beyond the next election. Everything is a quick fix. Like sticking a plaster on a haemorrhaging artery. Rant over.

Couple of observations on your rant. The UK has the world's 9th largest manufacturing industry. It is not correct that 99% of tesco staff are part time.

When one is balls deep in an impassioned rant the risk of hyperbole is heightened. 99% is obviously too high but the massive bulk of their work force will be those working on shop floor and in depots who according to a quick Google search will be on £10.10 an hour outside London. This is only 20p over the national living wage. A quick look on their website and indeed.com suggests that the jobs being advertised (not including supervisor or manager roles) are all either 8 or 16 hour contracts. That would work out at £4 to £8k a year not including overtime.

EU inflation is higher, Eurozone inflation is lower. One of the main drivers of EU inflation is the fact the Baltic states are taking a caning and their inflation rates are high. We’ve got low unemployment, but the number of inactive people is higher than it’s ever been and we’ve got record vacancies. My view is that people who can’t work should be supported, those who won’t work have to work for the dole. I’m terms of Brexit, it’s still a mess. The old squabbles within the Conservative Party are bubbling again and our economy is the only one of the G7 economies that is still below pre Covid levels. Something isn’t right.

Yes, Togg. Apparently though none of the bad things happening elsewhere is as bad as here and what happens here is all because of brexit. Some people refuse to take into account the covid pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the Truss disaster or the fact that politicians have mismanaged this country for their own gain for the last 50 years and maybe more. The rise in energy costs alone has very little to do with brexit and is mostly to do with Russia in Ukraine and then the oil exporters playing games to make more profit. It isn't a coincidence that along with record prices some people are making record profits which proves they are charging more than they should. Corporate greed is causing as many problems as anything else. There is no disaster or hard time they will not exploit to make the rich people richer.
