Luton Vans - Match Thread 10:22 - Jan 11 with 62254 viewsCFW

Never had the confidence to start a match thread, going early and hoping first time lucky!!

The obvious questions - will Charlie start? will he be used as an impact sub and can we keep a clean sheet? I really, really hope and pray that bringing him back works out for both sides. There are two Charlie Austins - the one we took on, burning desire to do well, worked very hard for the team, played on even though he was in a lot of pain and gave everything to every game. The other, unfortunately, (if you read and believe the reports) is someone who lost his desire, had his head turned, went off the rails, put on a load of timber and is not, and will never be the same man or player he was in the past. Could go either way, but I hope for both the club and his sake it goes well for him and I wish him all the very best of luck.

I am going for a 1-2 win - and after being awarded a penalty Charlie picks up the ball and gives it to Dykes who slams it into the back of the net to win us the match. They embrace and it is the start of a beautiful partnership.

Dieng with a great claim from that corner. Superb take.

This half has gone the way many of our first halves have gone recently. Good play, working the defense side to side, decent interplay.

But having someone who can put the ball in the back of the net makes all the difference.

as long as warb's doesn't feck this up with second half subs, withdrawing chair and carroll to try and hang on to what we've got

I don’t mean to use this as an opportunity to slate dukes (who has been solid today).... but this is why I didn’t buy the he’s got no service argument that the dukes defenders made

There’s more than one way to score than getting a cross into the box.... poachers finishers, goals from distance, off corners etc

Chas created that goal solely from instinct and intelligence

Dykes will hopefully learn from Austin

Dykes isn't and never has been a prolific goalscorer, already Dykes looks twice the player (similar to his Scotland form) when he's got the right support around.
Horses for courses as Charlie might say?

More nice football down the right, Dykes lay-off for Kane too long though but Kane gets back well to block for a Luton throw.

Cameron fouls now on the left. Silly. Offside from the short free.

Time for Rangers to suffer an outbreak of "Preston cramp"

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Most enjoyable 45 minutes of football that I’ve never seen.

Ausin intercepts a square ball but miscontrols it badly and loses it.

Great tracking back and turnover from Dykes.

Rangers in possession.

Super Charlie Austin, wish he’d turned up 23 games ago.

HT Report.
It's all about Austin. One man has changed everything so far.
His positional play and that goal will lift everyone.
If you have a good keeper, a good centre-half and a good striker then most teams should be ok. We have Dieng, Dickie and now the returned Austin. All three tick the boxes.
This was an overall first half performance that is certainly good enough for QPR to finish midtable.
Dykes looks so much better with Austin his accomplice.
Even Kane after a poor start has improved remarkably with excellent crosses.
If only BOS with his strength and speed can get to the byline and cross - then it would help.
Hopefully Charlie can do all 90 minutes and Chair can put in some dazzling runs.
Confidence is everything.
So long as we don't gift anything in the second half - then 3 points??

Pretty sure square balls don't conform to regs...though may explain the missed efforts v Fulham.
