The man to sort out our entire defence once and for all! Oxford fans demanding £4m/5m in the replies and claiming he wouldn't be arsed about a move to us.
This article (if the link works from my phone) gives a lot of good info in him. The two paras copied below suggest Warbs Warburton could provide him with a very compelling spiel!...
'A ball-playing centre-back comfortable in possession, Dickie would seemingly have been a perfect fit for Stam’s system, but was never given the chance in a competitive game by the Dutchman.
“I’ve got no bad feelings towards Jaap Stam, I think he’s an amazing coach and I absolutely loved working for him,” Dickie says. “The way he played was perfect for me. Just playing in training brought me on so much, he gave me more confidence with the ball at my feet. He always used to say to us if you ever make a mistake, don’t worry about it. He was asking us to play a certain way, and knew it was risky and knew we were going to mistakes, but let us play with freedom. I really respected that.'
Karl Robinson says Oxford United are pursuing an "aggressive" transfer fee for Rob Dickie. The centre back is edging closer to the exit and was not involved in Saturday's 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers in pre-season.
The Londoners look favourites to sign Dickie, who is into the last year of his contract, for a seven-figure sum at the end of a summer where there has been lots of interest but little in the way of firm approaches. A deal could be wrapped up in the next couple of days.
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.
I'm still laughing that Dickie wouldnt be interested in leaving Oxford for us, pretty sure he might think differently, move up a division, higher profile more money (I imagine) and the chance to shine and maybe get promotion with us or a move to PL if he did well.
No I imagine he's far happier trundling along at Oxford.

Dickie has indicated that Rangers would be his preferred move.

That ought to be crucial. The early links on this thread are all OUFC talking about how great it is that loads of clubs are after him. But here we are and there he still is, and no reports of a firm bid (unlike CPFC's rejected early bid for Eze). And apparently out of contract in 10 months.
"seven-figure sum" - fair enough so long as it's not more than £1.5m
This here Ted, whether it was twitter or their Message board, their fans reckoning he wouldnt be bothered about a move to a bigger club in a higher league.
Sorry if this is a spackman - haven’t read through all previous posts. This is interesting analysis of Rob Dickie (get past the first couple of minutes).
In summary - very good with his feet, very intelligent and a leader. Apparently not too fast and therefore doesn’t suit a high line... is he suitable for warbs-ball in this case?

The leadership thing stands out for me, more important than pace in terms of what we're missing IMO.
But what I really liked hearing (since most of the talk is about his passing skills) was: strong in the air, won lots of physical battles in League 1 games
Oh, and "positional sense". Boy could we do with that.
