You can't have him work and stop paying him. He'll sue for breach of contract, become a free agent and make an extra £10m signing for a new club.

Payet on 12:58 - Jan 12 by A_Fans_Dad | Keeping a player who does not want to be at a club and will no longer play for you defies logic. You are better off getting rid and replacing him. |
Worked alright for Liverpool and Suarez. This should all have been sorted behind closed doors and his exit worked on for the summer giving him a reason to keep playing to his best form. Really tough for everyone down there now. What a shame, never mind.

Surely if he is under contract to play football and then refuses to do it then he us in breach of contract. Sickness and annual leave excepting. I would have thought they are on a position to fine the ass off him. Maybe even stop all wages. I never get this refusal to play whilst under contract to do so.

It's not like he'll notice a few weeks wages going unpaid. Payet will make back any fines 10x over if this forces a move this month. But you can't have him play in the reserves/u15s as suggested AND refuse to pay him, and he's probably got clauses in his contract that prevent the former anyway. West Ham just need to keep insisting they're happy to let him rot if need be to keep the price up and hope someone comes in with a £40-50m bid.

It's about time a club in the PL refused to sell a player and let him rot, regardless of what anyone says players have too much power.

Crystal Palace dug their heels in over Zaha. West Brom did the same with Berahino.

Fair point but I meant more of a Bradley Orr situation at Bristol City where he had to train and sit in the stand at weekends or not get paid.

Payet on 16:58 - Jan 12 with 1736 views | Uppa_Swans | It would be incredibly difficult to simply let a player rot in the reserves though. If a player was flat out refusing to play, maybe you could sue them for breach of contract. That rarely happens though - as is the case here a player just can't be arsed to play. So he'll be picked but won't put a shift in. It would be nigh on impossible to sue a player for 'not trying'. Payet's 30 odd, valued at £20-25 million now, Wet Spam may as well cash in. But all this has come from Bilic himself, which hardly does Payet's value or character any favours. Odd one.

Payet on 10:49 - Jan 12 by Pegojack | These self indulgent prats of footballers never cease to amaze me. Earning £120k a week, yes, A WEEK, more than most of us earn in five years, and he decides he doesn't want to play for them any more. Presumably he didn't express those sentiments when he was signing his contract for £120k a week. Put him in for training with the U15's and fine him his wages if he refuses. |
Surely he's breaking his contract ,just don't pay him ,he's probably heard on the grapvine there's a massive club after him and now the thinks he's some sort of football god

Marseille have just come into money so they've obviously tapped him up to go back to them, so he's holding West Ham to ransom, seeing as they've got lots of spendies now they can give us 10 mill for the Panther that is Bafi Gomis.

Payet on 18:07 - Jan 12 with 1574 views | icecoldjack | He looks like a sneaky coont in fairness. Wants to play for PSG but of course says fook all when signing his 120k a week deal at wet spam . Football is upside down, the swans are only ever one of these coonts away from going pop , close call with gomis, which may still ruin us, at least bafa is just not very good and reduced his terms for his loan deal, helping the club to move him on. Teams like swansea will and have been ruined by the payets of this world, they just need to well him and accept it's a dog business. Fookin coont over paid footballers, sours my taste for the sport and he ain't even a swans player !

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_van_Hooijdonk Van Hooijdonk asked for a transfer. The club's new owners refused. Van Hooijdonk announced that he had been told previously that he could leave the club at the end of the 1997/98 season if he so wished, that he felt betrayed by the club's owners who had failed to deliver on their promises to him regarding the strengthening of the team, and that he felt he could no longer play for his employers. Forest, desperate for a striker, refused to allow him to be transfer-listed again, so van Hooijdonk announced his intention to strike. He kept fit by training with his former club NAC Breda. Because of his behaviour Van Hooijdonk received criticism both from fans and from his teammates, not least from team-mate Steve Stone and manager Dave Bassett. The club refused to listen to offers for him, as they needed a top striker and the stand-off lasted until early November when van Hooijdonk, realising that he had no choice, agreed to return. By this time the club was again in relegation trouble: bottom of the league without a win in nine games. He played sporadically between then and the end of the season, outlasting Dave Bassett and Steve Stone. He scored 6 goals in his 19 starts in the Premier League, including his first goal in his third game back against Forest's fierce rivals Derby County, helping them to a draw. Infamously after this goal most of his team-mates refused to celebrate alongside him, instead going to Scot Gemmill, the man who crossed the ball to him. He also scored a last minute home equaliser against rivals Liverpool with a trademark free-kick that protected Forest's proud unbeaten home run against them that goes back to the 1980s.[5] Forest ended the 1998—99 Premier League season bottom and were relegated. In 2015, van Hooijdonk expressed regret at going on strike, saying that the situation "could have been handled differently

Yes but where did it actually get them? What is the advantage? If they don't play the player his value reduces as an Asset.
