who has improved... on 23:30 - Mar 1 with 1380 views | hydraulicjack | Remember monk has had fantastic experience playing under fantastic managers who have all put their stamp on how we play.he can use that experience to take the club to another level, but he needs help from an experienced defensive coach [Post edited 2 Mar 2014 9:21]

who has improved... on 20:30 - Mar 1 by lifelong | Well, I was a fan of laudrup. I simple couldn't believe it when I heard of his sacking. Yes, our performances have improved since he has gone but our results haven't, and over the next eleven games it's all about results, if they don't improve we will be in the mire. I seriously hope we don't regret getting rid of him. |
We'll find out in 24 hours. We've had some promising performances under Monk but not a whole lot in the way of results. We certainly look more capable of winning though. The next few games are the acid test of Monk's tenure. Should be interesting either way. Not a fan of this revisionism though. Laudrup was great for us even if his time had come to a natural end.

Laudrup was great for us last season, no one can doubt that. But the support he still gets on here and their anger at his departure is a bit silly. he had run out of time here and only the blinkered few can't see it.

Why is it silly? I can totally understand those who wanted to give the manager that took us to our first senior trophy and into Europe as much time as possible, and wonder if appointing a rookie to replace him was a sensible thing to do. I might not entirely agree with them, but it's a perfectly acceptable view IMO.

Pretty much everyone at the time thought the timing was daft not to mention the apparent lack of a credible succession plan. Only time will tell whether the decision was right or not. I can understand the Laudrup's Danish fanboys banging on about their hero being binned by lil ol' Swansea City but everyone else should have moved on by now.

I guess it'll depend on the next few results. A couple of bad ones and there'll be more than a few pining for the good old days of a disinterested manager who could get some half-decent results when he could muster up the energy.

Today's game is massive for Monk. Everyone agrees (apart from my old mate Warwick ) that he's got us playing as we can again. But starting today that has to begin to be reflected in results and points.

Aye, well, I can only assume there's a dodgy telly reception in Sheen Very confident about the upcoming games though. Just need to sort out the dodgy defending at FB.

Err, no - I've said we're a lot sharper and quicker...and that's not damning with faint praise either. I'm not carrying a torch for Laudrup. My beef is the double standards and revisionism since Monk took over. Nowt else. I thought Monk made mistakes against Everton (not that bothered but I don't think chucking Wilf on for the last 30 would have had a catastrophic effect on the rest of our season) and Napoli away that Laudrup would have been crucified for. Whether he's the right long term choice remains to be seen. I'm not convinced yet - are you? #prayforme

who has improved... on 12:58 - Mar 2 with 1170 views | C_jack | I don't think anyone has improved in terms of skill in the space of a month, they're the same players they were under ML but what's changed is the confidence in ability. I personally, don't think GM has really had to do anything apart from make sure the players are motivated and playing with 100% effort (which you'd like to think would be the case anyway). IMO the results since Laudrup left would have been the same with a lot of people the club put 'in charge'. That's not condescending to GM to all, someone had to stick their neck on the line.

This... Much of the energy in the team is also because of all the players coming back from injuries and getting fit. The amount of players that was sidelined in december and january was a burden on the confidence of the team. If we had won every game in that period, it would not have mattered; But as the results was a bit flaky it all added up. In my book Laudrup failed last summer in his insistence on keeping the team small, and only strengthening the team by bringing in a few better players resulting in a stronger bench. I would have liked to see the squad grow by 2-3 men... because of the financial constraints they would have been on loan or most likely from Spain. Last year we were very lucky with injuries, Taylor and Vorm were the only long term injuries. Pablo only had a minor niggle in November... that was about it. This allowed the team to remain the same in many matches. I am pretty sure that the team could have gotten the same results under Laudrup All that said I was as shocked and appalled as any over the performance against WestHam. The positive story for me is Bony. I am sure that he was not first on Laudrups wish list, and I would have loved to see Aubameyang playing; because of his pace he would have fitted in from day one. OK we got Bony and in the beginning we only saw him in small doses and this board started getting negative in all directions: "slow as a house", "12 mill why is he not playing all the time". Some defended him "he is not getting any service"... business as usual. In some of the matches I also noticed that the wings seemed to prefer playing Michu even when Bony had a better position. But again only natural since Michu was the top dog from last season. So you can argue that the best thing for Bony to happen was Michu getting injured and the team being forced to play for Bony. The good thing is that since then Bony have proven to us what he is good at and what he can do "even" in the PL. It will be great to see what he can achieve playing a "full" season.

Precisely Plus my beef is the unprofessional way we handled this and didn't even have the class to thank him for what he did for us. Cats statement about wanting the team to lose is so wide of the mark I will not grace it with an answer. Off to support the boys now disappointed if they lose but will not be for want of support from me or even too much concern just yet as there are still lots of points to be had.
