| News Comment | The Solution Is Clear For Russell Martin If He Is To Stay In His Job at 11:12:38
Our tactics are naive and predictable. We are top of the Premier League for backwards passes, but the aim of the game is to win football matches not to top meaningless passing stat tables. Man City would win whatever way they played - even if their manager told them to just go out and play - because their players are so much better than the rest, but anyway, their passes are forwards, not backwards and sideways. Most of the teams that win Premier League games nowadays have less possession, for example Newcastle just beat Spurs, who had 66% possession. They just pick off passes their opponents make in front of their own goals, which is all that every team that plays us knows they ned to do to beat us. Unless we stop the predictble sideways and backwards passes in our own half, playing against us is like taking candy from a baby. |
| News Comment | Southampton Could Still Offload A Few Players In This Transfer Window. at 13:29:58
It would be like sending turkeys to Turkey. The only problem is they can't afford them (and they don't celebrate christmas anyway). But, seriously, it might be worth paying them a bit to take some of them off our hands just so that Russell Martin can't pick them any more. We've got a nice Smallbone for you, and we'll even throw in an Aribo, a Stephens and an Edozie. You'll pay 20% of their wages, you say? Done! |
| News Comment | Six Could Potentially Leave Southampton On Deadline Day at 10:14:49
Offloading a few players makes sense. The Club has to balance the books or it could risk a FFP points deduction. Players like Aribo and Smallbone were OK in the Championship, but they are not Premier League standard. Maybe Championship clubs will take them. Edozie is another one we should try to offload, as well as one of our current goalkeepers: Lumley or McCarthy . |
| News Comment | Justin Bijlow Fails Southampton Medical at 08:39:58
That is so true, Bartley. All successful teams have a strong spine. Meanwhile we seem to be building a team made up entirely of wing-backs and wingers. Clough also said his most important signing was when he broke Forest's record transfer fee to sign Peter Shilton. We also had our must successful years with Shilton in goal. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Nottingham Forest The Verdict. at 10:28:05
Although I didn't leave early I can understand those that did as we never looked like scoring because, as you say, we never had anyone in front of their goal in a position to score. Our tactics appeared to be aimed at playing for a 0-0 draw and then, after Forest scored, to try to keep the score down to 0-1. |
| News Comment | Southampton Hold Talks with Goalkeeper at 11:14:43
To be brutally honest, McCarthy is not even a good backup goalkeeper at Premier League level. Imagine what would happen if Ramsdale got injured. Lumley looks like he'd be a good backup goalkeeper. So, it would be preferable to have Ramsdale and Lumley, and loan McCarthy out. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Oxford United The Verdict at 10:16:14
Making Alex McCarthy captain sent out a terrible message to the team. They know what a liability he is and so do the fans. We need a new goalkeeper before we start the league season or we're going to be relegated again. |
| News Comment | Southampton Ready To Break Transfer Record In Next Week at 09:51:34
I know it won't be popular saying this, but we really can't continue to ignore the elephant in the room. Unless we buy a proper goalkeeper, all these outfield signings are a waste of money, as with McCarthy in goal, we'll be relegated anyway. |
| News Comment | Southampton Receive Formal Transfer Request In Writing From Player at 13:25:49
SaintPaulVW, how often have you seen Onuachu play? He looks totally unathletic and has the ball skills of a lower league player. He reminds me a lot of a player called Emmanuel Dieseruvwe, who scores goals in the lower leagues, often off his knee, but is nowhere near good enough for the Premier League. |
| News Comment | Time For The Spirit Of Southampton Football Club at 11:32:50
Stmichael, we may not match the home ends in the massive stadiums of Dortmund and Spurs but next season, we'll have the biggest standing home end we've ever had, which should see us have home support to be really proud of. Exciting times. |
| News Comment | Time For The Spirit Of Southampton Football Club at 11:27:04
Talking of the spirit of Southampton, it's great to see there are only a few hundred standing places left for next season in Blocks 40-45 of the new Northam Red Wall. Block 46 in the corner looks like being the last to sell out but they should leave a few places for individual matchday sales anyway. Looking forward to seeing the much improved home support next season. |
