Hardly anyone in the England team has pulled up any trees though. He's been no better, or worse, than most of the squad. Unless that changes I don't think it'll affect his value one way or the other.
Quite. I get that that JCS will/should mean a big payday and if Paal wants to leave we've no real choice. But our back four were the most reliable part of our squad last season, pulling them apart doesn't seem a brilliant idea. So for continuity reasons alone I'd hang on to Cannon, even if Hevertton signs.
Ditto. Except I was at the art college, where Jim King formed the original band. Saw them numerous times and, IMHO, were much better than their albums indicate.
I gave my Dad a copy of this shortly after he been reluctantly persuaded to have my Mum taken into care. It's one of the very few occasions I saw him reduced to tears.
Goffin & King and Bert Burns already mentioned above, but other Brill Building writers were excellent too. Especially:
Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller Barry Mann & Cynthia Weill Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich George "Shadow" Morton Neil Sedaka Neil Diamond And, of course, the late — and perhaps not too lamented — Phil Spector
That's probably because you and I watch a fair bit of the NHL, where a senior keeper who slowly transitions to a younger one isn't that uncommon. But it's a longer season, so a poor game now and again over 80 odd isn't as disastrous as it could be in the Championship. Having said that I agree with you. It's worth the risk, otherwise it's talent wasted. Begovich might be a better teacher/mentor than he is a top level keeper at this point.
This past half season Marti mainly had to serve a dish with ingredients he was given. Some important ones will undoubtedly leave. Others, more suited to the style he'd like to play, will arrive. Until they do speculation may be fun, but it's all just wishing and hoping.
FWIW Marti spoke very positively about him in the post-match presser. Of course the cynic in me thinks that he's just trying to boost the transfer fee.
Lots of variables naturally, but play-offs* are not unreasonable. Our record post-Marti's arrival indicates that.
* Personally I despise the EPL. I'd love to win the play-offs then decline promotion. It would really put the cat among the pigeons. Just a dream of course.
