Hughes On £2 Million Bonus To Keep Saints Up Wednesday, 14th Mar 2018 21:44 Mark Hughes is reportably about to be announced as the next Saints manager and those in the know in the media are saying he is going to be on big bucks.
The usually reliable media sources are all saying the same things about the next Saints boss, that it will be Mark Hughes and he will take charge of the squad for training on Thursday morning with the announcement set to be made some time late on Wednesday evening.
It is unclear yet what length of contract Hughes will be on, but the media are saying that he will be on a big bonus to keep Saints in the Premier League and it could be as muc as £2 million.
That is small change if he can do the job given the big money Saints will continue to earn as a Premier League club.
So it is all eyes on the news channels this evening.

So we take a punt on the cheap option pre-season, fail massively from early doors and the message is all is okay and then when the board wake up to what the rest of us have been predicting all season throw a ludicrous amount of money at anyone to save our backsides. Oh dear.

Fair enough, the money isn’t an issue anymore, that ship sailed years ago. Best we could have done in the circumstances.

Ridiculously big bonus, but at least he should be pretty inspired now to do the job. He brings with him long-term lieutenants Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki according to express.co.uk Why do managers always insist on bringing their lieutenants with them where ever they go?

There are managers around like it or not that have a style of play or an identity about them like Alardyce or pulis, wenger or pochetino but hughes has been fired from all his jobs for not having any of those and in some cases taking the clubs backwards so good luck to hughsey great player and all that but I just cant see what difference he will make, this season has been a complete disaster I hope he can do us proud starting at wigan on sunday coyr

his fellow coaches know what he wants, and because of the time restraints thats important to get the players on board, fitter, and keener.

I am willing to give him my 100% backing. We should all pull together and see if we can cheer the boys on to stay up. It is going to be a bloody big task but lets give it a go! COYS

bstokesaint is absolutely right: The board are a penny wise and a pound foolish. If they had spent the money to bring in a highly regarded manager in the first place after Koeman left, they would not have been stuck paying Puel's contract (until he got a new job), then Pellegrino's contract, now have to sign a new manager to a new contract with a hefty bonus! They would have saved money if they had done it properly in the first place.

I hope he does well, indeed I hope he turns out to be the best manager in the clubs history !. But is the SPARK still there?, I think he's had his day. He got the sack from Stoke for christ's sake!, and there a worse team than us!. THEY WERE GLAD TO SEE THE BACK OF HIM. Just as we were glad to see the back of Pelegrino. He's been sacked 4 times ( I cant remember what happened at Fulham). I can see it's quicker to get someone in quickly if they are not already at a club, as our last 4 manager's. If they have Hughes in to keep us up,give him a big thank you ( wedge of cash) if he succeeds . Then for once pay out compensation to get a manager - Jokanovitch ( hopefully Fulham wont go up) a manager who is motivated & improves players. Then I'd say fantastic, the board are my darling's !. But alas it wont happen I know because I'm a realist, still its nice to dream.

According to Jeremy Wilson the bonus is "just under £1m" and he usually has good info.

Each place higher in the premier league earns well over 2 million so if he moves us up 1 place he will pay for himself, never mind the obvious benefits of staying up. 2 mill is peanuts now it probably only pays the wage bill for about 3 days now. I for one feel more optimistic than at any point since the end of last year.

A small price to pay in the context of things and an additional personal motivation for Mark Hughes. What's not to like?

The £2 mil bonus would not surprise me at all. The Premier league money is absolutely crazy. A few years ago, I knew a first team physio who was the brother of a v.good mate and colleague of mine - he got 250K bonus when the team was promoted to the PL from the championship. Yes Physio. and 100% true.

This is a monumental decision, and one I wholeheartedly welcome. All the sceptics aside, if we have to go down, it is far more palatable to do so having tried to do something about it (albeit) 3 months too late, than going down with MP still in charge. The board should hang there heads in shame if we do.

Whoever negotiated this deal needs his or head examined! What should have been agreed is payment for points and a nice bonus on top later if the manager succeeded in keeping us up. If what you say is true Nick and I have every reason to doubt you, then the loonies running this asylum are bigger prats than we thought they were. I mean the bloke was unemployed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really encouraging to hear that our approach for Hughes was in his own words totally unexpected! How many years have we put upon with the Les spin bullshit that we always have our next manager lined up having painstakingly researched all options for years before. I can imagine a long distance phone-call last Sunday evening, [Gao to Reed]" Why this clown still here? Terminte him now" Reed to himself "****, What I am going to do now?" Checks BBC Manager In/Outs list "Mark get me out of hole and there's a nice little earner in it for you" Hughes "Don't you have a Black Box?" Reed "Only the one that just arrived that's about six feet long"
