Playing devil's advocate here...but given the hit & miss nature of ALL transfers...and a realistic goal being, say, between 50-70% becoming solid first team regulars...and one in four becoming an 'asset' we can sell on at a serious mark up...does it really matter which ones fall where in those stats?

Yeah I know we are potentially stuck with the wages of a Madsen or Celar for some time or may have to sell them at a loss...but IF, say., that was countered by Morgan, who cost nothing, getting sold for several million, and so does Varane...and we get 3-4 decent seasons out of Nardi, Morrison and Dembele...would that make us look back at summer 2024 as a decent window?

Well that's between one and two mill more than I'd heard / read previously - which just goes to show when "these things get out there", they do so in numerous different versions.

I'm pretty sure its roots are in a story like this.

Still homophobic tho, and therefore crosses a line imho.

Most fans (Rangers and others) self-police with racist chants, no need for club emails or tannoy announcements. It seems we're still a long way from the same being the case with homophobic songs - and the media still questions why gay players won't come out while still playing...

I thought Luton was genuinely dangerous in the first half. Luckily at half time lots of people used some common sense and it seemed to sort itself out.

I think some clubs give you the choice of two parts of the away section - further back (for those who want to stand) or nearer the front for those who'd rather (or need to) sit...as in, Rangers would do that, not the host club.

We were near the front at Brizzle...was nearly all either 60+s or families with young kids...but four or five old enough to know better blokes insisted on standing and blocking everyone else's view.

I've never forgotten that Huddersfield game.

You were very exposed to the elements in the open away end in their old ground. I recall biting sleet throughout, and a howling gale that I swear to this day changed direction at half time, leaving us playing into it both halves...

Pretty sure there was one of those Faurlin-esque first time / round the corner passes to Smyth vs Watford during his cameo...but I may be both imagining things; and clutching at straws...

Agree 100% T.

On Monday I sat in SAR instead of my usual spot in R Block - partly cos I wanted to look out for exactly this.

First thing I said to my lads (who'd been in R) after the game was blimey, you can see from that vantage point just how well Marti has drilled them - tho clearly there are still moments when certain players struggle to execute orders.

No doubt still embarrassed by his pathetic attempt with the second goal - yeh he was wrongfooted, but it still squirmed over the line at snail's pace.

Haha was watching Redknapp Jr “punditing” last night and he said something inane about what coaches should do to improve their teams - I instinctively yelled at the screen, “your old man never fking did that!”

I think we could put out quite a strong team almost by default - eg I’d expect JCS, Edwards and Colback all to start cos they need minutes. That’s not a bad spine to start with.

I reckon Nardi, Dunne and Smyth the most likely not to feature.

I was sat directly behind that first one. Tbf I think he did everything right, and it looked for all the world like it was going in - not sure if there was just a touch of spin on it due to the way he dinked it, but I couldn't believe it squirmed past the post.

The one that hit the post was pure instinct.

Yes he's raw and sometimes looks confused, Bambi on Ice or both. He may or may not end up Champ standard. But I think he's responding to coaching and being given mostly cameo appearances much better than Armstrong did.

So is it just me that, despite the evidence of 25 games, still thinks Luton are a top 8 team who've wandered into a false position by mistake and are about to start tearing up the league any minute, and that minute could well be tonight?

Pep-ism v Pragmatism

Been much debated on here in recent seasons as we've gone from Warbsball to Gazball to Marti, as Clive has pointed out a Cruyff disciple at heart, trying to navigate a route between the two in the Crazy World of the Championship.

Tho this article from tactics guru Jonathan Wilson is more about the elite level, we all know how what happens there tactically increasingly trickles down The Pyramid. It only strengthens my belief that in Cifuentes we have someone very much with his finger on the pulse of where the game is right now, and how best to succeed in that environment.

Happy New Year My R's - Preview
at 09:17 1 Jan 2025

I've had sooo many of those what am I doing with my (and my family's) lives moments following Rangers.

This preview has reminded me - well, added the detail. Sitting next to my long suffering but loves it really other half and one of our oldest friends and watching with incredulity as Paul Smyth raised his right peg on the Bristol half way line had done it; as had Jimmy's diving header a few days later and celebrating that one with two of my other oldest friends and our long suffering but love it really offspring.

I remember many years ago piling out of an unexpected home win v Liverpool with the final 'one of my oldest friends' who make up our gang of five who've been going together for 40+ years (we're now treble that number with the assorted long suffering but love it really partners & offspring), and he said to me as we watched the despondent scousers traipsing away from the School End, 'they'll never have a feeling like this.' And for all their silverware, all their 'magical Europeann nights' - they won't.

We've all taken different routes to QPR - some of us found it by default, others had it thrust upon us - but your wonderful prose does so much to distil our collective experience. Thank you again.

Happy new year Rs everywhere.

0-2 Watford....

Field the world, lets them know it’s Rangers’ time – Report
at 11:02 13 Dec 2024

LOLs aplenty, thank you, brightened up a grey morning.

I'm not normally one for 'must win' or 'season defining' games, but prior to Stoke, I looked at the upcoming 7 pre-Xmas fixtures and thought, if we're going to get out of this mess, this is as good an opportunity as we'll get to start.

That we have 11 points from the first 5 has definitely exceeded expectations, I thought 8 or 9 would be a decent return.
