You mention when we can't go wide but we had the situation of Rowling stood, unmarked on the wing and the preferred pass was sideways or back to the keeper. Happened loads of times. I don't get it.
I really worry about this tippy tappy stuff. I was listening to some random discussion on Talk Sport and they were saying that Premier League proponents of this style of play regard the odd goal given away as collateral damage: expecting the style of play to make up for these mistakes. It beggars belief.
Wonder if EEL being out is what has helped us be less pedestrian with getting the ball forward. He is a good defender but one of the main culprits of putting his foot on the ball, by which time all our attacking players have been marked up. What a pleasure to watch today's game and see this squad/team beginning to gel.
More like it those last 15 mins or so. Can we start matches like that, please. Some good defending kept them from scoring, too. Thinking about an overhead kick off the line by someone first half. That might have been over the line. Bit like their header from our keeper's wayward pass. Did we get away with one there?
Continuing with walking football and standing with the ball at our feet on the half way line before making a sideways or back to the keeper pass. I see no improvement in our tactics I'm afraid.
Well that isn't going to get the crowds flocking back. One of the weariest games I have ever watched. Are our players being paid by the pass? 6 passes then back to the keeper for it all to happen again. We have some players who expect the ball to come to them and don't make a move if it is passed short. Both sides were terrible. FGR did not particularly park the bus but they kept their shape well. We had nothing in our game plan to break them down and get past them. We have built our hopes on Rodney but I cannot see where the next goal is going to come from. Dreary, dull and depressing. Typical Dale. Grumble grumble!
York commentators hit the nail on the head when they said we were guilty of overplaying the ball - we get to the edge of the area easy enough; so try an occasional shot ffs!!
Very good point really. We did batter them. How many corners did we have? I can't remember a game where we had as many. They scored the classic breakaway goal. Our keeper, maybe, could have done better with such a long range shot. Daggers were geared up to defend and they nearly pissed on our chips. It would have been an absolute travesty had we not got something out of that game. As I say, a very good point in the end.
