Only if they’re out of contract when the window closes. Hence the routine of clubs releasing players 31st August every year so they can find a club later on. |

He can’t play for anyone in England until January now . |

And also living in NYC is pretty great when you are earning a nice salary… |

Asking the obvious question maybe but who is going to pay for that? It certainly won’t Rubinho, his end goal is to get out as painlessly as possible, in his dream scenario a promotion and then sale. |

Absolutely it’s up to the owners at the end of the day but as said it means they’ll have to go straight through the division next year or they’ll be in a catastrophic FFP position the year after. |

The only true interest of deadline day is which player will Jamie Reuben be calling Amit about at 6pm looking to shift for a half eaten pack of Yum Yums? |

I’m guilty as charged on this one but ‘he just needs one to go in off his arse’. The last time i can remember a goalshy striker having one go in and spark a run of goals was Patrick ‘Wu-Tang’ Agyemang…. |

Contrarian again maybe but I’ve been quietly impressed by Celar. At times he gets caught flatfooted and tied up between centre backs but every striker at QPR for years has because the service has historically been shite. What’s encouraging about him is here and at Plymouth he has gotten across his man several times and gotten on the end of balls into the box and should’ve scored a couple by now. He also more often than not so far has gotten himself into great positions when our wingers have broken with the ball but hasn’t been found. It’s footballs biggest cliche but he really does just need one to ricochet in off him and he will be fine. |

Dabo’s reputation proceeds him in football - makes Ronaldo look shy and retiring. |

He’s coming up 33 though which is what’s so depressing looking at those names - the majority are dudes in their 30s who have had decent careers. Why the fck for example are the PFA providing a showcase for Dwight Gayle, 35 in a few weeks and more money than he can ever spend, over a kid in their early 20’s who has fallen out of the game this summer… |
| Forum Reply | Dykes sold apparently at 12:59 27 Aug 2024
Sure but it’s a buyers market ultimately - we want to move on from Dykes, by all accounts he’s earning decent money so you have to take what you can get. We would’ve only ever given him a new deal and a pay-bump last summer expecting that he was going to move on shortly and it didn’t happen so now we have to unravel that decision. If £1m is all anyone is willing to ask then it’s what we have to take. |

For what it’s worth (it’s the internet so nothing!) I said before we kicked off the season i thought 2x wingers, a CM, a LB and a RB would be signed and I’ll stick with it. If Dykes goes I would imagine also a CF on-top. |
| Forum Reply | Dykes sold apparently at 12:37 27 Aug 2024
Agreed! We signed him for c.£2m in 2020 and renegotiated his deal in 2023 so we should be looking at around £1.625m amortised at the start of this season. £1m gives a c. £625k profit on sale plus the release of his wages - if we said £15k a week (no idea obviously) it’s a further £750k minimum freed up. So c.£875k per season for FFP. Say we signed a replacement on £10k a week on a 4 year deal we could afford to pay £1.5m - 2m and have it be a net zero FFP transaction. Now obviously I don’t work for the club and have the FFP toolkit infront of me so it’s all cigarette paper workings but people shouldn’t panic at ‘only’ £1m as that’s not how FFP works. I assume Smyth means that Dykes is the only one who is consistently 3 yards behind play and so always perfectly placed for one of his hit and hope crosses |

The ‘mark’ against Cifuentes for me is his handling of games against 10 men, both here and at Hammarby. The first thing they teach you in your badges is that with a man’s advantage you keep the ball moving side to side and keep the defence turned around as that’s where gaps open up for the additional man to utilise. Far too often yesterday we got it out wide, put a foot on it, came back inside and crossed by which time the defence are set and the aimless lumping it into the box the last 10-15 mins was a gift for a knackered Plymouth side. Obviously Marti has forgotten more about football than I’ve ever known but it felt a bit weird to keep the 4 at the back on to handle very little attacking threat Plymouth offered and I’d wager EDB coming on tasked with standing 5 yards from the penalty spot would’ve served us better than Dunne, even with Paal pushed up. |

Tbh I came away thinking that by his standards it wasn’t actually that bad of a performance… Yes he’s annoyingly petty about little bit and pieces and he always feels like his matches are one innocuous tackle away from carnage but he was ‘strong’ enough to send Fordham off after 20 minutes, got the Issaya red card right and actually managed to stop that escalating, didnt fall for any of Smyth’s embarrassing starfish nonsense and actually let Frey and Celar mix it up a bit. 6.5/10 for me. |
