Well, the plan seems to have worked so far. 3 down and another chance at them in the morning. Get a couple early doors and we'll be laughing. One good thing about Bazball is it reduces chances of a draw; the opposition knows that can't just hang in there as we'll have plenty of time to bowl them out. You either outscore us or you lose. |

From that same era there was also Henning Berg, Scholes (briefly), Jordi Cruyff, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and David Healy - there might be more. |

The club do a series called 'Getting to Know' or similar, where they ask different questions like favourite foods, favourite holidays, are you good at other sports, who do you support etc, so your wish has already been granted. |

Is this the lad who played in friendlies for us as a triallist? Seem to remember some decent comments about him. Wonder if the delay in signing is down to him or down to us - possibly missed out on first choice? |

Baah signed as a 2 yr scholar with the youth team, so basically the final stage of schooling before pro terms get offered; not sure you could call him a product, but then again, most of this season's first year scholars have joined from other clubs as well... |

We had Connor Ronan as well roughly at that same time - so many good midfielders have come through, it's seems to be a bit of a speciality. The odd forward might not go amiss! Tavares was in and about the first team but moved on before we saw much of him. There are very few clubs who have a genuine production line of youth talent, especially at our level. Crewe used to have it, but not so much any more. We're doing well to get 1 a season. |

Evidence no, this is just anecdotal, but from speaking to people (a couple of them teachers) computer games now are almost as big as football for youngsters. And I don't just mean playing Tetris down the arcade, I mean there are pro players, leagues, live streams etc, and there is an element of easy participation (anyone can play and potentially qualify for events) that football doesn't have for them. I also tend to see fewer kids playing football casually than there used to be. I think there's a lot more competition now than before in general. Like I said, all anecdotal, but the old model of 'start going Dale with me Dad and carried on ever since' seems to be waning. |

Good to see ideas floated on how to increase the fanbase. However - it is a problem not just at Rochdale, but across the game as a whole (and across every sport). Simply put, there are fewer youngsters interested in football than there used to be, and also fewer youngsters interested in live football. In my opinion, there has also been a diminished sense of local community as well, which was something which used to drive people to become fans (our town our team etc). Maybe we need to re-evaluate the model of 'capturing' fans when they're teenagers and hoping they'll be lifelong fans... I would be tempted to look at the success of various non-league clubs in attracting older (25-40yr old-ish) fans and families, and asking how they do it. After all, these people are more stable, more likely to commit to long term outlay and have more disposable income. |

Had a flick through Donny's forum; seems quite a few of them wanted him to sign a contract and were disappointed when he was let go. Injury issues were mentioned, so could be a bit of risk involved in this signing, but it's good we've got another CB with a bit of Lg 1 experience. Couple of comments about him playing LB weren't the most encouraging; but I'd imagine we'd have a back 3 anyway with Jimmy K/new signing playing at wing back, so that shouldn't be an issue. Welcome CJ! |

Second only to Craig Dawson in my liftetime as centre back. Gutted to have lost him, but really he couldn't have been hanging around in League Two for much longer; he is 27 after all. We got one season extra out of him than we were ever due really. After being at Bury when they went kaput, then Dale when we were nearly shafted by Roger/Southall, I hope he can have a bit of stability for the 3 years of his contract and help Charlton up the leagues - he deserves it. Door will always be open if he ever fancies popping back on the way back down. |
| Forum Reply | Corey O'Keeffe at 10:22 8 Jun 2022
Burst onto the scene but faded somewhat... seems like he feels the defensive part of the game is just an annoyance to him and he would rather focus on being a winger. His best performances were when we had good possession and he could bomb up and down without thinking too much - unfortunately lacks discipline when we're under the cosh. Think he's an asset in League Two - if playing 3-5-2 or similar. In a back four he's not reliable enough. Good luck Corey! |

Gary Jones and Mark Jones (once of Wrexham). Matty, Ryan and Phil Edwards all at once under Coleman. |

Out of Contract Joel Coleman (Release) Jay Lynch (Keep - shown enough recently to be at least No. 2) Brad Wade (Release) Jim McNulty (Offer contract) Eoghan O'Connell (Offer contract) Jeriel Dorsett (No chance) Joe Dunne (Release) Corey O’Keeffe (Offer contract, but we will have competition) Paul Downing (No offer - injury prone) Max Clark (Offer contract on right wages) George Broadbent (Release) Stephen Dooley (Offer contract on cheap wages) Alex Newby (Release - gone backwards) Josh Andrews (no offer) Danny Cashman (No offer) Matt Done (Offer contract - can play multiple positions, good to have in a small squad) Massive work needs to be done in centre half and defensive mid positions. Would like to see 2 new centre halves, regardless of whether EOC stays (possibly one of these a loanee) and a strong physical centre mid. 1 new GK to compete with Lynch and a couple of forward players. |
| Forum Reply | Is Luke Charman not good enough or injured? at 22:20 5 Mar 2022
Dawson signed in Jan, but suffered from an injury almost on signing. He was coming from a lot lower level than Charman did though, he was basically coming from an amateur level. Don't know what's up with Charman, although from what I've seen from him he's very instinctive... not necessarily the kind of player to do what his manager says... |

My thoughts: An awful performance which leaves me disheartened about the rest of the season. Lynch - actually didn't do much wrong, good save at the end to keep us in it and kicking was good. Taylor - best defender on the night, but that's not saying much. Has a habit of giving the ball to the nearest man he sees, even if that player is tightly marked. Puts us under needless pressure. Will improve when he learns the situational side of the game, but this is not really the time to do it. O' Connell - disinterested, stroppy, lethargic. What we've seen for the past few months. Needs to sort his head out. He's our best player but his attitude has been awful, especially for a captain. Dorsett - one of the worst centre back performances in memory. Constantly stumbling over the ball. Hoofing it to nobody. Barely won a header. Didn't miss him when he went off. O' Keeffe - the type of match he struggles with. Not a defender, just a winger who can track back a bit. Dooley - completely anonymous. Ball - a yard slower than Vale's midfielders. Sometimes he would be better turning and facing forward than constantly playing it back to our CBs. Clark - bad. Newby - about as much threat as a blancmange. Campbell - felt sorry for him, he's really not a target man, doesn't seem to have much pace either, but at least he looked like he was trying. Grant - not good, couldn't cope with the quick press. Charman - hardly touched it. That said, the ball only came out of our half twice. Kelly - couldn't get on it. Every pass was given to him with about three man around, or misplaced. Would do better in a better side. Odoh - he did a dribble. Stockdale - on this performance he has lost the players. If they have tactics, they aren't carrying them out. They have no confidence. They are disinterested. They are just scraping enough points to get them to the end of the season and then they can get a new club. If I were the board I'd be seriously thinking about a rejig in the same, relegation or not. |
| Forum Thread | Strongest lineup at 13:46 28 Jan 2022
...assuming that's the end of the signings for the window, thinking we could line up like below: Coleman O'Keeffe, Downing, O'Connell, Dorsett, Clark Dooley, Kelly, Newby, Charman, Campbell With a strong bench of Lynch, Taylor, Keohane, Odoh, Broadbent, Cashman, Andrews That to me is a really strong lineup with competition all over the field and options to change the way we play. And what's more, most of these players are our own players as well, not loanees who are going to return to their clubs in May. On paper, it's the best window in living memory! |

I would prefer O'Keeffe to Matheson for the here and now definitely. Matheson is obviously off the cards now that Downing has arrived, but I wonder if Downing is in effect a replacement for O'Keeffe, even though they don't play in the same position. Could Graham or Taylor play WB? At a push, Odoh or Dooley? COK doesn't do much defending now, and we saw how effective Odoh was when used as an emergency WB... we could play Taylor/Graham at RWB for the games we expect to be under the cosh and for a bit more height, and Odoh/Dooley when we expect to be on the front foot. Personally I would let Cashman go back if we can get another striker - he seems to be behind Newby, Odoh, Grant and Kelly in the team, and it's a waste of a loan position if he's not going to be picked. |

If O'Keeffe is off somewhere else, would anyone fancy getting Luke Matheson back from Wolves? Currently on loan at Hamilton, but hardly playing and not fancied, thinking we could take him off their hands - Fitz, you may be able to shed light on why this is? Think he would suit our formation with the free range to bomb up the park like COK does. |
