Excellent book. I am just finishing Politics on the Edge, the political memoir of Rory Stewart. He's a bit of a narcissist but it's an interesting insight into the shambles of the last conservative government.
Alan Johnson's childhood memoirs are also an excellent read. He had a tough upbringing.
I was trying to remember the moment when I finally gave up hope of Dykes being any good. Then someone conveniently posted it on Twitter. One of the most astonishing misses you'll ever see. Harder to miss than score.
Seems like he was a decent bloke. Not sure how much we'll miss him on the actual pitch though. Strikers who don't score goals aren't exactly irreplaceable
His positioning and composure were very impressive for a young centre back. Looks to be a very good signing and I'm sure he'll get plenty of game time this season.
Interesting how we all see things differently. I thought Celar was more impressive than Varane. For me, Varane's passing was poor and he still looks like he has to get used to the pace and physicality of the English game. He's definitely got the attributes to become a good player and I'm pleased he got 90 minutes yesterday even though you could argue a good case for hauling him off. I think both Celar and Varane will come good.
There certainly seems to be more of a trend towards people getting a diagnosis later in life. Having worked with plenty of children with ADHD I know that the medication can really help and I guess adults may find it helps them similarly. It's good that someone with Charlie's profile is happy to talk about it as it may help other people who are struggling.
Charlie posted on twitter yesterday that he'd been diagnosed with ADHD. Said the medication he had been given has been life changing. He's just been on Radio 5 (around 8:45am for anyone who wanted to listen) talking about it.
Thanks for sharing that. Watching it, it is clear that Sylla's movement in the box was much better than Dykes. See how he scored several goals by attacking the near post. You don't see Dykes doing that very often. Sylla a more instinctive striker. I'm sure he missed a load of sitters too but I'd have him over Dykes for sure.
Agree with this. It's always good to ask yourself how would the rangers fans react to signing a 29 year old with these stats. I'm pretty sure we'd be very underwhelmed. Strikers with a 1 in 6 goal return over the last two seasons can't be that hard to find so I'm pleased we're getting any money for him to be honest.
One thing he does do very well is defend corners in our box. Wins a lot of headers. Frey can probably do similar but I doubt that's part of Celar's game.
I've been in the Dordogne the last two weeks and the driving round here has been an absolute pleasure. All winding roads, Chateaus and medieval villages. Roads in France are generally so much better than ours.
Only managed to catch the last ten minutes. Paal got skinned about four times very easily. Hopefully he was better throughout the rest of the game. Great result. Hopefully scoring will do Dykes the world of good.
That's not too bad considering it's an experience they'll never forget. Shelled out on season tickets already so don't think I'd get away with it this year but maybe one for the future.
Annoyingly I'm missing the first two games of the season. A friend of mine is taking my season tickets. Will a screen shot of the QR code in my Google wallet get him in or are they time sensitive?
I tend to agree but I don't think Claire Balding is making the editorial decisions. She's merely the presenter. It was way over the top as was all the build up to the Euros final. That seems to be what the BBC like to do at the moment.
