One Big Positive Today - Chair in the Middle
at 13:04 27 Apr 2025

Fair points but yesterday with space in front of him he got his head up and played a couple of superb long passes,

Cifuentes has clearly coached him to cross earlier this season, leading to his good stats despite not being fully match fit & seeing less of the ball,

No reason cannot move into Madsens position play a bit deeper & continue to release the ball quickly like he did yesterday, especially as unlikely to be crossing from the left to Dunne arriving at the back post next season.

So you don't think Warburton & Eustace would have been a semi-coherent 5 year plan at a club with our Board & infrastructure?

Playing a season of Championship football without a Centre Forward who can wil the ball in the air was a big risk, more by luck than anything else we got away with it this year.

Not sure we will next year. Hopefully Celar comes good.

One Big Positive Today - Chair in the Middle

Thought Chair was very very good in the 2nd Half today in the middle, two or three long passes in behind Burnley defence, takingthe ball and running across the midfield looking for those runners,

If Chair can do this against as good a team as you're likely to see in the Championship, surely he can play this role next season, with Varane one side & Field the other,

Give your best player as much of the ball as you can and this was a real eye-opener today, especially for a team that's lacked this type of playmaker for so long.

Chair improving return is very much down to Marti's coaching,

Whilst never looking fully match fit this year he has been crossing the ball into the danger areas much quicker than in years gone-by and it seems pushing Dunne up to attack these has been a key part of our attacking play,

We need our Coaches to improve players if our model is going to work and Chairs improved stats prove reflect positively on Marti's coaching.

Sorry, came across wrong, thought you made a really good point,

In a poorly put way I was saying one of the two's had a whole season and only got a game when his 18 year old replacement ran out of gas and we literally had no one else. Just can't see Madsen cutting it in a physical Championship.

Celar on other hand seemed to be adapting to physicality of Championship and it's a big ask to come from the Swiss League and play as a lone striker against usually two uncompromising Centre Halves.

I think we really need him to come good in what will be a stronger division next year.

One of whom has been available all year and lost his place to an 18 year old Development Squad signing,

Today was one for the Twitterati who think an occasional good pass is enough to cut it in the Championship, it's not.

Today was men against boys and Field & Varane were big misses as we had 3 ballers & Kolli up top and we all saw how that turned out.

Too many Strollers & not enough Do-ers,

Wise words and why the balance of a Championship team is so important,

Not enough legs or aggression in Midfield,

Not enough courage to show for the ball or desire to win it from the 10s,

Second best all day.

I think it's only fair that as we've employed so many useless blokes in that role we balance it up.

Morgan has run out of gas as an 18 year old Development Squad signing on allegedly x hundred quid a week he had to step up and play too many consecutive games given Madsens failings.

I would only be grateful to Morgan for stepping up & hope Madsen builds on yesterday's performance.

Played well in 3 games? didn't go yesterday but saw the other 2 and thought he had an acceptable to decent 20 to 25 minutes,

Hope he comes good but with our budget n this division we'll need 7 or 8 workhorses to compensate for his occasional incisive passing.

If he comes good we'll likely see the best of Celars movement so let's hope these two do just need time to adapt and will justify their investment next season.

For now I'm just pleased Morgan stepped into the breach and was key to our crucial mid season form, likewise Dunne for his assists & goals.

Jimmy Dunne Will he stay or will he go
at 11:52 16 Apr 2025

Think he's the heartbeat of the Dressing Room,

Young players like Varane etc seem to gravitate towards him as he enjoys their success,

Cooks got the CV and badges but does seem a tad miserable,

I think Jimmy's personality, desire & will to win, together with his friendship with Field, Varane etc is very important to this team,

I hope we value this and make him a good offer, always available, sets the standards & gives his all.

Agree he should have been hooked much earlier & agree we should be looking to recover half of our outlay if we can get it and sell in the summer.

The Championship is about horses for courses and its clear he's the wrong horse in this league.

Wish him well but we won't win many games next season playing like the 2nd half yesterday & at Oxford when you're effectively playing with 10 men.

We have to agree to disagree, as you're comparing the technical ability of a so-called c£3m creative Midfielder with 3 defenders, a defensive midfielder, a League 1 winger and a 3rd choice C/F.

Even Varane is an unfair comparison given his all-round game but I reckon it will be interesting to compare the sell-on value of Madsen & Varane come their next moves.

I've seen Madsen hiding at Luton (A) & Oxford (A) and Northern mentioned the same at Stoke (A),

Walking around playing the occasionally nice side 15 yard side-footed pass is not what you need in the Championship, otherwise Andre Dozzell would be much sought after.

I've never ever seen Field hide and Varane does'nt hide per se, he just needs to stay focused and in the game for the full 90 minutes and not lose concentration.

Agree, good leap & dominant in the air for the not the tallest Centre Half, good positioning, tackling and reading of the game, also not hampered by say Dickie's crucial lack of pace,

Steve Clarke was at the game yesterday (as was Kevin Keen, maybe monitoring their West Ham loanee?), think Bristol City have a young player eligible for Scotland but would'nt be surprised if Clarke was their to watch Morrison as would be on his radar after his 4 years at Bayern Munich.

Agree, that pass & goal was coming for 5 minutes as with no Field we were not pressing the ball and they were playing forwards & sideways till that sublime pass and quick movement from their West Ham loanee opened us up.

Wouldn't criticise Morrison as it was a quality pass, in the same way Edwards back pass nearly undone us due to their pacy attacker.

Or maybe if he had the courage to show for the ball more these so called technically inferior players would have a passing option?

Not sure I can name a player in this team technically inferior to Madsen, maybe Field who compensates by bring so much more to a Championship team.

This 100%, similar to Oxford he made us an 11 man team for the first 20-25 minutes and after that disappeared and they dominated his space, putting us on the back foot for the rest of the game.

Agree Gazza its been 2 seasons now, and Lyndon's 3rd season was disappointing, seemed to be hampered by injuries although he did come into some fitness and form at the end of that season, scoring some key goals, I'd have him back, although many would'nt!
