yeah, exactly. I think the club needs to sort it out or liaise in some way with the home club. It makes it unpleasant and a hassle not knowing if you can get your own seat.

I had a nightmare at Luton, ended up literally sharing 2 standing places amongst 4 with a fellow father and (adult) son who had been pushed out of their seat.

Only applies at a packed away end, I wasn't bothered at Burnley :-)

Yeah it was about not sitting in your designated seat. Call me old and grumpy but the (mainly) yoof that want to do that get right on my wick. If I've paid for a seat then I want to sit in the seat I was given. I saw some older fans who couldn't get a seat because of it, they refused to move. Bullies, really. Bah!

That point about goodwill is an interesting one, Dave. 13 games of consecutive dross and at the full time whistle of another defeat i, along with many others, were singing Marti's name.

I left on 73 minutes yesterday.

Maybe the shock on Marti's face in that interview when told the number of fans were going is because he knew he was sacking it off.

I also genuinely don't believe that his substitutions were the same as if in a league game. Totally different, totally passive. He didn't care. Fine, but let me know before please with some coded language like "opportunity for others" or somesuch.

Well I guess this is where the fault lines lie between the supporters. Even amongst those that were there (most around me and after game I talked to were fuming at the selection, others on here experienced differently) and not there.

"No big deal". We just went out the FA Cup. That, to me, every single time, every single year in my diminishing amount of seasons left....is a big deal. The chance for the excitement of another draw, maybe a big away ground, maybe even a quarter final. Gone. Again.

I know that isn't true of others, fair enough, but it is the way I feel and have felt since 1980 and I won't apologise for it.

I couldn't give a tiny rat's muff if we finish 12th or 18th. I would rather we got relegated to the non league and we won something.

Don't get this. Gallen's ACL at Portsmouth probably cost us a huge transfer fee and that season, so we should play a weakened side there after that in case it happens again?

Why do so many seem to believe that our players are going to explode into a thousand pieces if we play them in a cup tie?

Managers are desperate to blame the FA Cup for anything. It's a huge part of the job that they have to tackle, in my view, not just some bonus irritation.

I think what I am most scared about is that if we ever (ho ho) got anywhere in a cup competition and had a big quarter final, we would (like Brentford this season) "rest" some key players for some stupid meaningless league game the week after.

And then I would realise that my 50 years of supporting QPR have been devalued.

Mate, they won the Premier League, of course they show videos pre-match about it. And why shouldn't they go on about it relentlessly? It's quite possibly the greatest achievement in all sport.

Have you seen our pre-match video? We've got pictures of Gareth bloody Ainsworth scoring in League One against Carshalton or something.

If we ever won anything (ho ho ho) I would want that in the pre-match video on loop.

Totally agree. The OP says those players needed a rest but if it was a league game at Leicester they all would have played.

I'm Marti's biggest fan but he lied to the fans in the interview on Friday, saying he wanted to change the mentality of QPR in the cup. No, you sacked it off like all the others for no reason whatsoever.

I am sure he was as surprised as everyone else that Leicester played such a strong team, which I guess in a way vindicates Marti as I am 95% sure (from what I could see) we would have lost the game anyway.

But for me, if I had known at 9am when I was unable to open my car's frozen diesel cap, that I would be (sort of) watching a young goalie, a centre back with zero experience who will be playing against us next season, the pathetic Madsen ahead of the vibrant Morgan, no Smyth and a second or third choice striker, I wouldn't have bothered to make the trip. Can't they let the fans know beforehand so we can decide?

I also didn't recognise Marti's in-game management. If that was a league game he would have made changes at half time, and certainly earlier in the second half.

I've made the point many times before on here that not trying our hardest in the two cup competitions is depressing and makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If I ever won Euromillions three times in a row and bought the club, I would do two things. 1) Give Marti a 20 year contract and 2) make it imperative to him and any future QPR managers that they give the cups a full go. I would be impressed if they rested players in league games before the cup games so we can have a crack.

Our FA cup record is a national embarrassment. And we don't even try and fix it.

I am sure our 2-0 defeat at Plymouth will be well worth it.

Good on Ruud for playing a strong side. Good luck to them.

Superb again thanks, but please please please don't predict us to win. I always find it reassuring when you predict some kind of disappointment :-)

Marti on Leceister in the FA Cup
at 07:33 10 Jan 2025

Disagree with most of this, especially the 11 out of 10 bit. I would give him 12 out of 10.

I do think, on reflection, it is too easy if you don't like the manager to blame him for recruitment or downturns, or if you do like him to blame Nourry or the coaches or someone else.

Bit like when Dave Mc credits Gerry's entire first reign down to Don Howe. Or Joey Barton claiming that Steve Black (?) got us to the playoffs rather than Redknapp.

You can make your own narrative of course about the summer signings. To me, I love Marti because he can turn things around in adversity. So important. When Cook's foot exploded, if you told me we would pick up all these points with CBs being Fox and Dunne I would have said no chance.

However, if he picks the youth team tomorrow I shall downgrade him to 8 out of 10.

The voice of sanity. 4,000 tickets sold.

What's the point of supporting QPR if not for fun and excitement. "Avoid injuries" is not going to send me into dreamland.

More than that I think.

Of course we should go for it. What if we toss it away and we would have drawn Arsenal or Spurs home or away? Or get a rubbish side at home and a chance of the 5th round? What's more exciting, trying to come 12th or 13th or that?

And what I don't get is why suddenly a cup game means we will get injuries. It's just another match.

For lord's sake, why? In case someone gets injured and we may finish 16th and not 15th. There are over 3,000 Rangers going. It is the biggest club competition in the world.

PLAY A FULL SIDE

I am really sure those Brentford fans who went to Newcastle for the quarter finals of the League Cup were ecstatic to see their two best players rested. They can die happy knowing they thus beat Soton 5-0 on Saturday and not 3-0 if one of them had tweaked a toenail in the cup.

Age old debate, I know, but we can't just throw away the FA Cup every year. I know we will probably lose even with a full side, but so what. We are a football club. Our reason for being is to try and win trophies. So try and win them.

As we have discussed before, the viewing figures will be, in effect, zero.

Which they don't care about, as it is all about subscriptions and the overall package to show they are the place for all EFL football.

Oh for Saturday 3pms.

Agree - still looks a very good player, of course, but hardly someone you would want to spend £60m + on. Spurs the only hope as he is a bit of a Spursy player at the moment - looks great on the highlights....

Exactly. Just at is was ridiculous a couple of months ago to say "we are definitely down", then similarly anything is still possible for the rest of the season. There are 63 points still available!

It's nice to be picking up points on a regular basis though, gives us some future leeway.

Promotion to the Premier League is tough. But is survival effectively impossible?
at 16:24 31 Dec 2024

I too would be in no rush to get back to the PL, but presuming we are all of a certain age that is perhaps somewhat selfish of us. A youth full of being one of the better sides in the top flight has satisfied that itch and having no wish to see us being outclassed by clubs like Brentford is an issue too, I suspect.

But my 18 year old son has seen none of that and would love us to be there. I am sure anyone who has never seen us there would love it. Even if just the dreaded one season "tour".

On the plus side, you don't need many points to survive these days. With a plan, and a top manager, there is hope. Problem is, we'd lose first five games, sack Marti and replace him with some drivel.

I do wonder if our owners look at Forest and think let's stuff FFP and cheat like they did, use all our fabulous wealth and buy our way up there and to survival. Cop a 2 point fine and hope to stay up.
