| Forum Thread | In praise of Tall Paul at 11:34 27 Dec 2024
The guy deserves massive credit for his performance yesterday. Sure, he didn't score, but for his first attempt he was rugby tackled by the WH defender just as he was heading the ball - a clear pen for me - one header only just missed the far post and a third required a great save from Fabianski. And he was in the box in the right place to get on the end of those balls, just as he was in the right place in the box in space right at the end when Dibbling should have passed to him. Add to that that he was getting on the end of most of the goal kicks, not static, waiting to see where the ball was going and then running to meet it, often collecting the ball on his chest before laying it off. And he was holding up the ball with his feet too. And he put a massive shift in. And he was encouraging the crowd. Yes, some of his passes aren't as accurate as they could be, and yes he can be a bit clumsy. But show me someone who's 6ft 7 who isn't. |

We showed yesterday that when we cut out the suicidal passing we can keep a clean sheet. Martin-ball was certainly responsible for so many errors and points dropped, but maybe playing like that could have been justified if we're been more able to convert possession into goals. Now that Martin is gone and we seem more able to play with some measure of pragmatism, getting the ball into the net is still going to be our biggest issue. Armstrong, Fraser, Brereton-Diaz and Cornet don't look like to me they are now up to it at this level. Archer and Dibbling are, and we just don't know about Tall Pall. I think if he gets a goal and we work out how to feed him, he might be able to succeed but maybe not. Likewise Sullemana - is there a player in there that we haven't seen yet? But, even so, our attacking needs strengthened and re-vamping in January for us to have any chance of staying up. Anyone got any thoughts on who we might be able to get? And what about Smallbone? He was able to thread some lovely passes in the play-off games. We've not seen much of that from anyone else. |
| Forum Thread | Tactics, Squad, Mistakes at 11:21 25 Nov 2024
We've lost so many points this season because of avoidable mistakes - yesterday, big time. And you hear people say that there is nothing RM can do about individual errors on the pitch. But RM is trying to get a team of limited quality to play like Man City. Amazingly, they do still seem to be trying to do this - some effort after getting so little reward so far this season. They'd be forgiven for being demoralised but I don't see that. But I do see players trying so hard to be better than they are. They are all playing on their limits and trying to do things that perhaps naturally they wouldn't be doing. And when do we make mistakes? When we're pushing it. When we're tired, or trying to do things to quickly, or when we're trying to do something that we're just not quite good enough to do. These mistakes are the inevitable result of a squad that is overreaching. And that's on RM. |

What do we think? Should Saints have a look? Pretty mind boggling from the Cov board to sack him. |

That even Nathan Jones got one win in his 8 PL games. Even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day. |

We’ve played 4 games of a 38 game season, in the first three of which we were loyal to last season’s players. We lost two games by the odd goal, and silly mistakes. We were punished at Brentford for mistakes too. Today we were the better team for 30 minutes. And, for me,we didnt look like a bad team at all. We messed up the pen and then got sucker punched twice. Our subs didn’t improve us. This talk of sacking RM or of when we’re going to relegated is ridiculous. Thank God it’s RM motivating the team rather than this message board. There are 34 four games still to play. Thirty four. FFS. |

I've been trying to get another ticket for tomorrow's game on the ticket exchange, but drawing a blank so far. Does anyone know if the purchase of tickets on there cuts off at some point, or should I keep trying right up to kick off? |
| Forum Thread | Lee Carsley at 11:21 11 Sep 2024
I see that the chatter is starting around Carsley being appointed full time. Is this a serious possibility? I know that he has played international football at a senior level and was successful managing the England U21 team, but most of his other managerial appointments have been as a caretaker. His CV doesn't suggest it, but maybe he is good enough to manage England, but is he really the best manager the FA can find. I see that the US Team has just appointed Pochettino. |

See it finished 2-0 to Selles today in League 1. With Robbie Savage's son getting the first and popular singing star Sam Smith getting the second. |

I've got a spare U21 Liverpool ticket if anyone wants it. No charge as it'll only go to waste otherwise. |
