22/23 Squad rebuild. 18:35 - Apr 23 with 10491 viewsBeckenhamhoop

In a desperate attempt to remain positive about QPR I’ve turned my thoughts to next season and the squad rebuild that is, once again, necessary.

I’d just like to mention that Reading’s John Swift, aged 26, 11 goals, 13 assists is, I believe, out of contract at the end of the season.

Oh, and Michal Helik might not want to play in League One next year.

Am I the only person who still has some faith that, with an injury free summer & pre-season under his belt, Stef could come good again next season?

I am hoping for a Modrić-style renaissance.

I think JoJo is okay, injuries have been niggles which have returned and made it hard in the later season to string some games together.

But if you look at our top scorer's list here:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/queens-park-rangers/top-scorers

He contributed 6 goals and he's played more games than Dykes!
Austin is 7, which for a Striker of his pay is poor.

I can see Austin being farmed off to the MLS or else we have him for one more season. Wallace is defo gone, he's never fit. I would keep Uncle as he would probably be willing to work for low wages and he can be useful as an impact sub.

Sanderson was tried at RB and as we can see, he's no good. Okay defending, offers way less than even Kakay. I hope Kaks get a game soon now there is nothing to play for.

zzzzzzzzzz

haha, exactly the comparison I was gonna use but bottled it for fear of the reaction.

Agree, 31 is nothing, for this type of player.

Charlie however looks done

Surely if a player is under contract you can't set them on fire?

I don't think you can set footballers on fire when they are out of contract either.

It's political correctness gone mad.

Suffering since 1978.

Agree. I know it's only hypothetical message boarding as well but I'm seeing a lot of "ditch Dozzell", or as one delightful punter put it on Twitter during Saturday's game "kill everybody in this team, set Andre Dozzell on fire". If a player is under contract, you can only 'ditch them' by paying that deal up (not smart economics) or finding a buyer, which if they're not playing well for us you're not going to do.

You say that paying up Austin’s contract is not smart economics but from a purely footballing point of view I’d say it does make sense. It’s also possible that the football sense to paying off Austin’s contract outweighs the economic benefits.

Faith, hope and if they don't work a bit of charity wouldn't go amiss.

Out of interest, if you could keep one of Marshall or Westwood, which one would it be?

From a pure budget perspective I expect Westwood is cheaper.

From a performance perspective, I actually don't think there is that much between them.

Marshall makes the more spectacular saves, but also has a terrifying touch of the Bankoles about him. He's like a one-man satire of Scottish goalkeepers. How many points did he manage to cost us while playing less than 10 games?

Presumably they'll both be leaving at the end of the season though, unless Archer's arm has fallen off.

Marshall was largely doing OK until his flapathon started at Blackburn.

But yeah I suppose they will both leave assuming Archer is back to fitness (although I like the idea of having a more experienced keeper on the books - Dieng, Archer and Walsh are all still relatively young).

i'm absolutely 100% positive that we will part ways in the Summer with Austin.

it's clear on the pitch that Austin's heart (and legs) aren't in it anymore.

we'll agree with Austin to terminate his contract, he'll get a lump sum from us, and he gets to say that he 'ripped up his contract out of respect for QPR...' or something similar, and gets out with some sort of legacy still intact as if he's leaving the hero he entered as.

Can we not knock it?

I reckon we'll re-sign Dillon Barnes.

Good point, I'll put the wicker man back in the cupboard

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
