Blackpool v Wigan Preview
Friday, 27th Feb 2015 12:26 by Editor

There have been more 'head in hands' moments this season at Bloomfield Road than there ever has been and sadly all for the wrong reasons. Another four on Tuesday at Brentford could have actually been forty two as the Seasiders woes mounted. There was a feeling a while back that this game against Wigan on Saturday could be crucial to both club's survival but in actual fact it's more of a dead rubber than anything. These two sides will be facing each other next season but in a league lower than the Championship. If Lee Clark wants the fans back on his side then he has to give them some cheer but also some hope. There have been few signs of any improvement under the Blackpool manager and against the second worst team in the league, he'll feel pressure to deliver.

If the Seasiders boss is to change his sides fortune then he'll have to do so with little room to move within his squad. Orlandi is still out injured, Feruz has returned to Chelsea and Dunne is suspended for this one whilst Aldred, O'Hara and McMahon are all carrying knocks with Davies still coming back to fitness. Clearly Clark will have to 'go for it' at home and would be better going all out for a win than to try and appease the fans with a 'solid performance' or 'battling display'. We have proved we can score four at home (as well as concede four!) and there will be an expectation against Wigan that we can finally get that emphatic home win. Anything less and Clark may find he has lost the fans for good.

Wigan's appearance in the bottom three has been a major surprise to most especially when Malky McKay arrived at the DW Stadium. However, it looks like the Latics will be joining the Seasiders in League One next season and defeat on Saturday would practically seal that (despite still being ahead of Blackpool on goal difference). Emmerson Boyce is back in the visitors starting lineup, while Jermaine Pennant and Gaetan Bong will be looking to build on solid debut performances for Wigan.

Don't expect a classic. Nobody will be relegated by the end of the game but Blackpool will be as good as down without a win whilst Wigan will look likely candidates to join them if they lose.
