Saints Supporters Need To Make Sure They Aren't Distracted By Harry.
Thursday, 25th Sep 2014 11:13

Saints go into the game against Queens Park Rangers knowing that if they win and Aston Villa beat Chelsea the club could go top, however the supporters have to remain focused to avoid a repeat of Harry Redknapp's last visit to St Mary's.

When former Saints boss Harry Redknapp last visited his former stamping ground his QPR side were heading towards relegation and Saints supporters looked forward with glee to hammering a nail in his coffin and taunting him.

However on that day in March 2013 it was Twitchy who had the last laugh as his QPR side ran out 2-1 winners against Saints despite only having 33% possession and only 3 shots on target.

QPR lived to fight another day and it has to be asked just how much of the crowds hostility towards Redknapp contributed to Rangers digging in and getting 3 unlikely points, certainly the constant abuse of Harry could not have helped the Saints cause, with the Saints supporters clearly focused on the wrong matter, it enabled Redknapp to focus his team on doing a job of work.

This Saturday we need to avoid a repeat of that day 18 months ago both on and off the pitch, we need to create an atmosphere that makes QPR cower with fear rather than rally round a central point.

The other problem is that not only do we have the hated Redknapp returning but also in his camp is another ex Saints manager who is not remembered fondly alongside him in Glenn Hoddle, so the temptation to hurl abuse at the visiting dug out is doubled.

So we need to concentrate on the task ahead and that is getting the three points in the bag early in the game and then turning the screw, then when to game is well and truly won there is plenty enough time to let Harry Redknapp know the distain he is held in, in Southampton.

Last time Harry Redknapp had the last laugh, this time lets make sure that it is us !

Anyone that abuses anyone in public needs to seriously look at their own life!

Think Hoddle done a great job at Southampton he left to go to the Club he supported bit like Lambert. Cant say the same for Rednapp

Whilst I don't condone personal abuse even at HR, I think a year in Div 2 hardly qualifies as the last laugh even though he kept his job!

No, Arry didn't have the last laugh, we did. He suffered his SECOND Premier League Relegation that Season. I reckon he will suffer his THIRD this Season too. Shame for QPR. Agree, we must beat them this Saturday, and go on to beat the Spuds the following Sunday.

It wasn't as much his players rallying around him as MoPo not being able to adapt. No worries on that front this time!
If verbal jabs are not on, since 'Arry has testified he can't read, would it be OK to hold up signs? Would any reference to his financial manager, Rosie, be see as animal abuse?

Perhaps a happy compromise would be once there are 4 clear goals between us and them we CAN taunt Harry and Glen.

I've nothing against Hoddle. He did an excellent job for us, but was always going to go to Spurs. And we all know how that ended.

As for 'Arry well he's just a candid crook. In any other walk of life he'd be behind bars. Seriously if a banker had done the things he's got away with then he'd go down for a very long time. The powers that be would crush him for all the country to see. But not old lovable 'Arry. He's a scumbag and although I'm able to focus my feelings elsewhere I don't have a shred of sympathy for him for anyone who can't keep their emotions in check. Luckily I think the team are good enough to win without their 12th man so long as they don't get complacent. That's ultimately what cost us last time round.

Its worth buying Harry Redknapp's autobiography (available from all good charity bookshops for 50p - that's where I got mine) just for the first few chapters where he (or more likely his ghost writer) gives his side of the story of his trial. As they say, give a man enough rope…...
