U'sual Champions League 2025 Ro16 - Deadline Tuesday 4th March 19.45
at 16:56 23 Feb 2025

Qualifiers The current holder blueeagle qualifies automatically. The other 11 are the top points scorers over the two divisions after Week 22. They are:- mfb_cufc, Daniel, thrillseeker, bwildered, basher2010, noah4x4, Tropical_Us, Jorash63, Lewis_1, unitedwhites and Sector4.

Round of 16 This will be four groups, with three members in each, and after predicting all 16 fixtures, the top two qualify for the Quarter-finals. Groups have traditionally been decided by using a random number generator, and I have gone along with that, by repeating the one used last year. The rankings in brackets after holder blueeagle is based on points tally at the time of qualification.

All predictions are the result at the end of normal time, extra-time and/or penalties will not count. If any members are level on points after the 16 fixtures, the tie-break rule will apply. There will be no first-to-post tie-break deciders, only most spot-ons. If they are still level, then a further tie-break will apply by predicting the attendance at the Colchester v Fleetwood game on Saturday 15th March.

Quarter-finals To be played on 8/9 & 15/16 April.
The Group qualifiers will then form two more Groups of 4, and predict all of the Quarter-final matches. Groups will be comprised as follows: Group A Winner A, Runner-Up B, Winner C, Runner-up D Group B Runner-up A Winner B, Runner-up C, Winner D. Top two from each group qualify for the Semi-finals. As in the Ro16 there will be no first-to-post tie-break deciders, only most spot-ons. A further tie-break, if required, to be decided.

Semi-finals To be played on 29/30 April & 6/7 May.
These will be the Winner A v Runner-up B, and Winner B v Runner-up A. Prerdicting the Semi-final matches, plus one goalscorer from each of those games.

Final To be played on Saturday 31 May.
The finalist will predict the Champions League Final, including predicting different aspects of the game, not just the score.

Tie-break rules for the Semi-final and Final will be announced in due course.

Round of 16 1st leg Fixtures No more than four predictions the same as fellow group members, and all fixtures to be predicted at the same time please.

04/03/2025 CLUB BRUGGE v ASTON VILLA (17.45)
04/03/2025 BORUSSIA DORTMUND v LILLE (20.00)
04/03/2025 PSV EINDHOVEN v ARSENAL (20.00)
04/03/2025 REAL MADRID v ATLETICO MADRID (20.00)
05/03/2025 FEYENOORD v INTER MILAN (17.45)
05/03/2025 BAYERN MUNICH v BAYER LEVERKUSEN (20.00)
05/03/2025 BENFICA v BARCELONA (20.00)
05/03/2025 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN v LIVERPOOL (20.00)

Good luck everybody.

It is a quick turn around with the 2nd legs the following week. I hope to have details of those fixtures on Thursday 6th March.

Happy League 2024/25 Week 30 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 1st March 15.00
at 20:44 22 Feb 2025

Week 29 results

ARSENAL 0 WEST HAM UNITED 1

Jarrod Bowen got the winner as West Ham ended a four-match winless run against 10-man Arsenal. No points for anyone from this game, as everynoe predicted a win for Arsenal.

IPSWICH TOWN 1 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 4
Brennan Johnson scored twice as Spurs continued their upturn in form with this victory. Nobody had this spot-on, but 18 did get the outcome.

COVENTRY CITY 2 PRESTON NORTH END 1
Coventry ended their 22-match winless run against bogey team Preston, with first-half headers from Jack Rudoni and Bobby Thomas. A ginormous 15 got this spot-on, in what was the weeks most predicted score, and a further 6 had the outcome.

BOLTON WANDERERS 2 LEYTON ORIENT 1
Aaron Morley netted a second-half penalty winner as Bolton came from behind to beat their fellow play-off chasers, who lost for only the second time in 16 games. A massive 9 had this spot-on, and another 6 got the outcome.

LINCOLN CITY 0 BURTON ALBION 1
Charlie Webster scored his second goal in as many games as he boosted Burton's survival hopes with a dramatic 92nd minute winner, with their only shot on target. No points for anyone from this game, as 23 predicted a win for Lincoln.

SWINDON TOWN 1 CHESTERFIELD 0
Kabongo Tshimanga scored a second-half penalty winner against his former side, as Swindon returned to winning ways. Nobody had this spot-on, though 9 did get the outcome.

Another week where "good things" didn't turn out to be that good, with the 1-0 defeats for Arsenal and Lincoln failing to produce a point from their games, and with four games overall not having a 3 pointer, it was left to the 2-1 wins for Coventry and Bolton to save the week. It was saved in a big way as those wins achieved an incredible 24 spot-ons between them. There were six members who had those two 3 pointers, with the best coming from blueeagle, who also got the Spurs and Swindon outcomes, to make him the weeks top scorer with an excellent 8 points. The others were RSCOSWORTH, ghughes11, concordman and Moor_Pinot, who each also had one outcome, to give them all a very decent 7 points. Finally burnsieespana, who got a decent 6 points. Best of those to have one outcome was mfb_cufc, who got the Bolton 2-1 and three outcomes to give him a useful 6 points.

U'sual Champions League Details for the Round Of 16 will be on the separate U'sual Champions League thread tomorrow (Sunday).

In the Premier The useful 6 points for mfb_cufc keeps him top for the eighth week running, but the top scoring performance from blueeagle has cut his lead by 2 points. A solid week for thrillseeker, that included having the Coventry 2-1 spot-on, keeps him third. A second disappointing week in a row for unitedwhites, has now made it difficult for him to break into the top two, but he remains fourth. A solid week for Daniel, who also had the Coventry 2-1 spot-on, keeps him fifth. The decent week for RSCOSWORTH enables him to continue leading the group of seven threatened by relegation. It is all change underneath him, as the decent week for ghughes11 moved him up two places to seventh. His highest position since Week 8. Despite getting the Coventry 2-1 spot-on, Sector4 drops a place to eighth. His lowest position since Week 10. The decent week for concordman moves him up a place, and out of the bottom three again. This means having the Coventry 2-1 spot-on was not enough to stop basher2010 dropping into the relegation zone for the first time this season. A good four outcomes for oxfcolu, and a decent week for burnsieespana, still leaves them both with a lot to do in avoiding the drop.

In Division One Just the Spurs outcome for bwildered, as he takes his run at the top to five weeks. But his lead was cut in half by Jorash63, whose solid week included getting the Bolton 2-1 spot-on. Having the Coventry 2-1 spot-on keeps noah4x4 just a point further back in third. A solid week also for Tropical_Us, after he had the Bolton 2-1 spot-on, moved him up a place to fourth. Despite getting the Coventry 2-1 spot-on, Lewis_1 drops a place to fifth. Another to have the Coventry 2-1 spot-on was durham_exile, and he remains in the final play-off place. The decent week for Moor_Pinot moves him up three places to seventh, and within four points of the play-offs. Just a point further back, and only separated by the tie-break rules, are Blue4U2, wessex-exile and BFG, in what continues to be a very competitive league.

THE TABLES (210 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Happy League 2024/25 Week 29 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 25th February 15.00
at 21:36 15 Feb 2025

Week 28 results

ASTON VILLA 1 IPSWICH TOWN 1

Struggling Ipswich produced a battling performance to hold Villa to a draw, despite playing nearly an hour with 10 men. Nobody got this spot-on, and only BFG had the outcome. 22 predicted a win for Villa.

OXFORD UNITED 0 PORTSMOUTH 2
Portsmouth ended their 12-match winless run away from home, as Oxford only have one shot on target. Nobody had this spot-on, but 4 did get the outcome.

STOKE CITY 3 SWANSEA CITY 1
Stoke came from behind to beat their fellow strugglers, with Lewis Baker scoring from his own half to put a gloss on the victory. Another game with no 3 pointer, though 15 did have the outcome.

NORTHAMPTON TOWN 0 WREXHAM 2
Wrexham maintained the pressure on the League One leaders, as they eased to victory, with Northampton failing to have a shot on target. 4 had this spot-on, and a further 19 got the outcome, with 12 going for a 2-1 in what was the weeks most predicted score.

BARNSLEY 1 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 2
Huddersfield came from behind to boost their play-off hopes with a Yorkshire derby win. A sublime 5 got this spot-on, and another 2 had the outcome.

STEVENAGE 1 PETERBOROUGH UNITED 1
Peterborough had lost 10 of their last 11 games away from home, and not won in 12, but they rescued a point thanks to Cian Hayes' goal. 3 had this spot-on, and one more got the outcome.

WIGAN ATHLETIC 0 STOCKPORT COUNTY 2
Two goals in the space of three minutes in the final quarter saw Stockport cement their League One play-off credentials with this victory. Only 2 got this spot-on, and a further 12 had the outcome.

AFC WIMBLEDON 1 SALFORD CITY 0
Matty Stevens scored his 16th league goal of the season as Wimbledon moved into second place in the table with victory over their promotion rivals. A great 8 had this spot-on, and another 11 got the outcome.

CARLISLE UNITED 0 COLCHESTER UNITED 0
Mark Hughes' first home game in charge of bottom side Carlisle ended in a bore draw. Well done to Moor_Pinot for being the only one to get this spot-on, and only Sector4 and wessex_exile had the outcome. 20 predicted a win for Colchester.

TRANMERE ROVERS 1 MILTON KEYNES DONS 1
A penalty from ex-U's Luke Norris salvaged a draw for Tranmere, as they extended their winless run to eight games, and MK Dons avoided a fifth straight loss on the road. Well done to bwildered for being the only one to have this spot-on, and 3 more got the outcome.

It was a promising start to the week after the wins for Wrexham and Wimbledon in the early kick-off fixtures achieved 12 spot-ons, and 30 outcomes, but that was about as good as it got, as the other seven games failed to reach those heights. Though a goal more for Villa, Stevenage, Colchester and MK Dons, and a goal less for Stoke and Stockport, in those 3 o'clock kick-offs could have made a big difference. Well, at least for me anyway. In the end there was a total of 24 spot-ons, that produced a number of good weeks for members, especially Lewis_1, who did well to be the only one have three 3 pointers, the wins for Wrexham, Huddersfield and Wimbledon, and three outcomes, to make him the weeks top scorer, with a brilliant 12 points. There were seven members who had two 3 pointers, with the best coming from bwildered, who had the draws at Stevenage and Tranmere, and four outcomes, to give him a superb 10 points. The best of the others were mfb_cufc, who got the wins for Huddersfield and Wimbledon, BFG, who had the wins for Wrexham and Wimbledon, and Blue4U2, who got the Huddersfield 2-1 and the Stevenage 1-1. They each also had three outcomes, to give them all an excellent 9 points. The other three were ghughes11 and Jorash63, who both had the wins for Stockport and Wimbledon, and blueeagle, who got the Wrexham 2-0 and the Stevenage 1-1. They each also had two outcomes, to give them all a very decent 8 points. Best of those to get one 3 pointer was thrillseeker, who had the Wimbledon 1-0 and a good five outcomes, to also give him a very decent 8 points.

Happy Cup Details for the Final will be on a separate Happy Cup thread on Tuesday 18th February.

The U'sual Champions League The draw for the Round Of 16 takes place on Friday 21st February, and the first fixtures take place on Tuesday 4th March. All the details for this competition will be on the separate U'sual Champions League thread on Sunday 23rd February.

In the Premier After decent weeks for the top two, it is mfb_cufc who increased his lead by a point, thanks to getting one more outcome than blueeagle. A decent week also for thrillseeker, that moved him up a place, and back to third. Two outcomes for unitedwhites brings an end to his recent fantastic run, and he drops to fourth. A solid week for Daniel, that included having the Wimbledon 1-0 spot-on, and he remains fifth. A solid week for RSCOSWORTH, who also got the Wimbledon 1-0 spot-on, moves him up a place, and back into the top half for the first time since Week 17. Even though he has made it back to the top six, he still remains one of the seven fighting to avoid the drop. Three outcomes for Sector4 drops him back into the bottom half again. After just the one outcome, basher2010 suddenly finds himself embroiled in the relegation scrap, after being no lower than third in the first 14 weeks of the season. The decent week for ghughes11 keeps him of the bottom three for the second week running. A decent week for concordman that included getting the Huddersfield 2-1 spot-on, continues to give him every chance of escaping. A 3 pointer each for oxfcolu, the Huddersfield 2-1, and burnsieespana, the Wrexham 2-0, but they are starting to get a little bit adrift. as we approach the final quarter of the season.

In Division One After 27 weeks when the lead was changing almost on a weekly basis, could this be the defining week of the season, as the superb week for bwildered has suddenly stretched his lead to a healthy 8 points. That is from Jorash63, whose decent week moved him up a couple of places, and into the other automatic spot for the first time this season. Four outcomes for noah4x4 leaves him a point behind in third. The top scoring performance from Lewis_1 moves him up a couple of places to fourth. Four outcomes each for Tropical_Us and durham_exile, and they take up the final two play-off places in fifth and sixth. Excellent weeks for BFG and Blue4U2, moved them both up a couple of places, and well in sight of the play-offs, in seventh and eighth. Three outcomes for wessex_exile, and a decent week for Moor_Pinot with that Carlisle bore draw, keeps them both in contention for the top six as well.

THE TABLES (204 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Happy League 2024/25 Week 28 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 15th February 12.30

Week 27 results

NORWICH CITY 1 DERBY COUNTY 1

Jerry Yates slotted home a 92nd minute penalty to end beleaguered Derby's miserable seven-match Championship losing streak and prevent Norwich from moving into the play-off places. Nobody got this spot-on, and only oxfcolu had the outcome. The other 23 predicted a win for Norwich. with 12 going for a 2-0 in what was equally the weeks most predicted score.

SHEFFIELD UNITED 2 PORTSMOUTH 1
United edged past strugglers Portsmouth despite an unconvincing display to move back into the Championship automatic promotion places. Everyone predicted a win for United, with a super 6 having it spot-on.

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 0 READING 0
Huddersfield stopped their run of three straight defeats to remain four points ahead of Reading, after this bore draw. Nobody got this spot-on, but 4 did have the outcome. 18 predicted a win for Huddersfield.

ROTHERHAM UNITED 1 SHREWSBURY TOWN 2
Shrewsbury made it back-to-back wins to improve their chance of staying in League One. Another game with no 3 pointer, and only noah4x4 and Moor_Pinot got the outcome. 19 predicted a win for Rotherham.

BARROW 3 GILLINGHAM 0
A comfortable win for Barrow, as they extended the Gillingham winless league run to nine games. Yet another game without a 3 pointer, though 16 did have the outcome.

CREWE ALEXANDRA 0 NEWPORT COUNTY 3
Newport's resurgence continued as they claimed a third straight win with an impressive victory. A final game this week with no 3 pointer, and only basher2010 got the outcome. 22 predicted a win for Crewe, with 12 going for a 2-0 in what was the weeks other most predicted score.

FLEETWOOD TOWN 2 CHELTENHAM TOWN 0
Goals at the end of either half from Matty Virtue and Mark Helm made it four wins from six for Fleetwood. Well done to Daniel for being the only one to get this spot-on, and a further 14 had the outcome.

SALFORD CITY 2 TRANMERE ROVERS 0
Hakeeb Adelakun scored a brace for Salford, to give them their first win in five League Two games. Tranmere have now lost their last nine away games, their worst sequence since 1978, when they lost eleven in a row. A super 6 had this spot-on, and another 15 got the outcome.

Another week where all the home teams were well supported, but as usual it never proved to be that easy, with only four obliging, and with five games failing to have a 3 pointer, it turned out to be a tough week. The other three did have 13 in total, with the Premier coming out on top by 10-3, but it was the 71 total outcomes that gave most members a reasonable week. Only one member, RSCOSWORTH, did well to have two 3 pointers, the wins for Sheff Utd and Salford, and two outcomes, to make him the weeks top scorer with an excellent 8 points. There were eight members who did best of those to have one 3 pointer, they were thrillseeker, ghughes11, Jorash63 and Madeira163, who each had the Salford 2-0, basher2010, oxfcolu and Moor_Pinot, who each had the Sheff Utd 2-1, and Daniel, who had the Fleetwood 2-0. They each also got three outcomes, to give them all a decent 6 points.

In the Premier Four outcomes for mfb_cufc keeps him top, but his lead was reduced by a point after blueeagle got the Salford 2-0 spot-on. Having the Sheff Utd 2-1 spot-on helped unitedwhites to also get a point nearer the top. The decent weeks for thrillseeker and Daniel keeps them in contention, in fourth and fifth. Having the Sheff Utd 2-1 spot-on keeps Sector4 in the top half, but only on the most 3 pointer rule from basher2010. The top scoring performance fron RSCOSWORTH eases his relegation worries, as he remains in eighth place. The only change in this division has ghughes11 moving out of the bottom three once again, as he is replaced by concordman.

In Division One Three outcomes was enough to keep bwildered top for the third week running. Up a place into the other automatic spot again is noah4x4, after his good five outcomes. Three outcomes for Tropical_Us, means he has to settle for third place. The decent week for Jorash63 moves up a place to fourth, to equal his season high. Four outcomes for durham_exile, but he drops a place to fifth. Two outcomes were enough for Lewis_1 to hold onto the final play-off place, as wessex_exile also got two outcomes. The decent week for Moor_Pinot moved him up a couple of places, and within sight of the play-offs, as are BFG and Blue4U2.

THE TABLES (194 out of 280 played)
