Is Number 10 dysfunctional?
at 07:58 20 Sep 2024

As I understand Sue Gray worked for Michael Gove. That's important becasue of the schism between Gove and the rest of Johnson's staff in number 10 and of course Johnson himself. Gove was Johnson's political assassin and was only in the cabinet because he was the only competent Tory who supported Brexit.

One of the reasons that Gove pulled the trigger on Johnson's leadership is the shambles that the Tories became under him - including things like partygate.

The partygate leak to the Mirror came from "Downing Street" member of staff, potentially a bald one who tests his eyesight by driving to castles. Who may have held a previous role with Sue Gray's then boss and left under a cloud. Plenty more people knew about the parties I suppose, but definitely not the entire Westminster civil service (many of whom would have been working from home anyway) and certainly not those who work for political enemies. The leaks would have been far more numerous and would have become a concrete story much earlier.

There is nothing to suggest that Sue Gray had knowledge of the parties apart from guesswork, it could even be that her investigation led to disillusionment and her job with Starmer.

As I understand she didn't work in number 10, but in the cabinet office around the corner.

If I was going to throw a party that was against the law I'd make sure as few people knew as possible.

It depends on the precise timing. It might just be good recruitment.

Poacher turned game keeper.

I wouldn't have thought the parties were known about outside of the attendees and definitely not the wider civil service.

But it refers to an already committed overspend. It has to come from somewhere.

And you only have to look at the state of public services to see we aren't spending enough in the right places.

I agree the WFA decision was made too quickly, but I suppose it couldn't be delayed due to the impending payments being made.

I agree with the principle but not the lack of assessment or the pension credit cut off.

The pay rises are a different matter, they're recommended by an independent panel and already massively delayed.

The black hole in finances obviously isn't mystical, just look at the state of public services.

Not at all. Any political affiliation would have to be declared as a conflict of interest.

Sounds like she deserves a pay rise.

A civil servant is not allowed to accept gifts. Whether that's an admin assistant in the DVLA or a Chief exec. The same should be the case for MP's.

The WFA should have had a full impact assessment. I can see a U turn coming up on that.

I don't see there is a comparison between WFA and public sector increases. As you say in most cases it's following an independent review and years of no or very small increases.

All the while state pensions have increased in line with the triple lock - over 10% pa in some years.

It's been a long time since any Prime Minister actually ran the country. Cummings has been mentioned but Princess Nut Nut had a far bigger influence and for longer over BJ, probably because of BJ's :)

Allegedly she encouraged him to crack on with HS2 when everyone else was teling him it was a stupid idea amongst other things.

Before you even consider the influence of people like Ruprt Murdoch - who once said he supported Brexit because people in number 10 listened to him whereas those in Brussels didn't.

I don't think her salary is remarkable when compared to others. The Chief exec of Swansea council earns similar.

Covid contracts worth £15bn had corruption ‘red flags’,
at 08:55 19 Sep 2024

Partygate cost the govenrment at the time their entire political future, and finished the tories as a political force for generations - and only 50% of the people bothered to vote.

What conspiracy theories during covid have proven to be true?

You are an antisemite, as that sentence demonstrates.

You see that's just more than of the same isn't it? Let's have some evidence for Covid being a "shamozzle".

The restrictions clearly served the purpose that they were intended for. The people didn't stand for the behaviour of the government at the time and we saw the result of that in July.

No most conspiracy theories in the west stem from the far right, and it's clearly your political position as you're an antisemite.

It's how they work, they target people's inate insecurities. Just look at the "success" of Qanon, it's grouped all conspiracy theories together in one place and the host of Q's drops has made millions. It's clearly bollocks. But can be indirectly traced back to Evangelists in the states.

I'm happy to debate any topic, but you need something to substantiate your claims. All you seem to say is "your close to the truth" you've been banging this drum for years, how much closer can we get? When will this truth be revealed?

Very few people believe everything they're told by government and the MSM. Most people think for themselves to at least some degree, although follow the bias of the media they read.

I'm a scientist. I need to see evidence for everything I'm told, see and read. You don't usually have to look too far.

You seem to believe a tiny portion of far right propaganda spewed on the strangest parts of the internet purely because it's different. I don't think you really understand it or have seen any evidence for what you're told. You don't think for yourself.

I think that makes you a bit of a fruit loop.

More good news for the City of Swansea

Pretty much whats planned really.

Rob Stewart and the much maligned council are really trying their best. A bit more funding from The Senedd would be well spent in their hands.

The suggestion was to turn it 90 degrees and it take the place of the car park - WG were happy to provide funding and increase the size of the car park on the opposite side of the road that hasn't been finished.

Swansea turned it down, I'm in two minds if that was a goood or bad idea.

Swansea Council think the Civic Centre site is prime real estate for a very expensive hotel, unfirtunately there's been no interest in it.

WG have previously undertaken a feasibility study for a bid for the games which ruled out a bid in the short term.

I believe the games are funded by at least an 80% contribution from Westminster, more for Glasgow 26. The amount of money that WG wastes on things like a Cardiff tram may well be better spent improving sporting facilities across a wider area.

I know that WG wanted the Swansea arena to be far larger (and contribute towards the cost) to host large sporting events but Swansea Council refused.

That's not to say the game are economically viable at all in the long term though.

He was tried in the magistrates court, the most he could get was 12 months. I don't know if that's the best place to deal with him though.

I think all paedophiles, and that's what he is, should go to prison for a decent stretch but unfortunately his sentence seems to fall in to the standard guidelines.

https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/magistrates-court/item/possession-

I suppose the good thing is that as one of the most recognised faces in the UK there's no hiding place for him wherever he goes. He's barely going to able to walk down the street again without getting a pile of abuse.
