Defeat For Youth Team In Derby 12:22 - Jan 6 with 91 viewsBringBackTheRedRoom

The under-18s started the New Year with a 2-0 defeat to local rivals Preston North End.

Preston grabbed the opener early on through Jacob Holland-Wilkinson, before Tyrhys Dolan scored North End’s second inside the final ten minutes.

The game didn’t start off in the best fashion for the young Seasiders as they found themselves a goal down after 11 minutes. Holland-Wilkinson turned Harry Winstanley in the area and fired the ball under Charlie Monks to find the net.

Blackpool then started to grow into the game a little, with Tony Weston having a few chances. First, Aaron Turner played a lovely ball down the channel for Weston to run onto, he beat his man but shot just wide of the post. Weston then ran through on-goal and got a shot away, only for Corcoran to save well.

After the break, Ryley Smith nearly grabbed an equaliser. The ball fell to him on the edge of the area, he took aim and volleyed towards goal, only for Corcoran to get down well and deny him.

Aaron Bennett had a shot sail over the bar before Andy Kanga had a great chance to equalise. Rob Apter did well to beat his man and fire a cross towards the penalty spot, Kanga took a first-time shot on and fired over the bar.

Ten minutes from time, the Lilywhites added a second. Dolan beat three men on the edge of the area and curled an effort past Monks and into the far-right corner to seal the win for the hosts.
