Scored a hilarious goal against Booby Mimms on the plastic if memory serves me well.

Had a rare ol' Kevin Keegan mop of hair.

Slow.

Collected beer mats as a hobby (you've gotta have an interest aventchya?)

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Yes the Mimms goal was very funny indeed.

Kerslake was always talked about as having huge potential but he never really made it. Started out as a winger and ended up playing full back for Swindon.

That was my 21st. Birthday, he scored 2 that day against Spurs.
He was once 50/1 to score first which my mate lumped on, we got a penalty, Kerslake picked the ball up to take it only to have Simon Barker wrestle the ball off him!

they showed the goal on saints and greeves

remember at the time looking away in disgust at him shoting from so far out and it being such a weak shot that any keeper worth their sort would save it easily

then everyone screamed and cheered i turned looked back bobbys on all fours and balls in net!

Didn't he come up the same time as Gavin Peacock? There were high hopes for both, but they were both moved on. Peacock did rather better, though I believe Kerslake was at Spurs for a while after Swindon.

Peacock came through the ranks, made his debut the same day as Gavin Maguire away at Oxford as Jim Smith rested half the milk cup team before they went missing at "that game" we drew 3-3 and Clive Walker scored

Should add that a few younger qpr fans and most scum fans forget that Peacock was ours first, we had a few good youngsters at that time, showed a lot of promise but most fizzled out, Justin Channing scored a few, Robbie Herrera and anyone remember Brian Laws, was a solid centre back before picking up a career ending injury.

Think he was a year in front of Peacock. May have been in the same youth team as Martin Allen. At the time (mid 80s) held the record for the number of England youth caps won. As others have said, started as a winger, he was VERY highly rated at QPR and was tipped to be the next big thing but it never really happened for him at LR and ended up only a bit part player for a few seasons.

I always had a bit of respect for Brian Laws for nicking a bus and driving it around Wolverhampton. Think he left football shortly afterwards.

He was a bit inconsistent at LR and was sometimes the target of the boo boys - a bit like Leigertwood I would say. PLayed wide midfield but preferred central midfield. Wasnt a bad player, but got better when given a regular run out after he moved on - think he went to Swindon, then got a move to Spuds, where he got some attention from England.

The goal against Bobby Mimms was funny though...

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Disappointing, mainly.

Younger fans may not know this, but once upon a time we had a thing called a youth team and players from it used to go on to be key players in the side and sometimes even internationals. Kerslake had a great record in youth team, some sort of appearances record for England at youth and U-21 level, should have been the great white hope of a midfield playmaker.

Don't think it helped that this was the post-Venables Smith era, when flair and youth wren't exactly given their head. Never really got much of a run in the side and IIRC usually pushed out on the wing where he didn't really have the pace to make an impact. But he never imposed himself on games and I don't think he did anything much after he left the club.

Dreadful hair, too.

I went to the same school as him (Stepney Green) - without a doubt head and shoulders above everyone at school - it was the days when schoolboy internationals were held at Wembley - and we used to go and watch him play their for England with huge crowds - I dug out one the old match programmes a while back and Andy Sinton was in the same schoolboy team .
I nutmegged him once during training for the school team - and obviously he never recovered from that.
Kind of lost track and was surprised to see him giving interview on motd as Cardiff assistant manager.

Does anyone remember Kerslake scoring at Stamford Bridge by chipping David Speedie?

It was a night game and we were losing 1-0 with a few minutes left. I think Wicks had earlier piled into Niedwecki and their keeper had to be taken off. They'd already used their sub so they put the smallest man on the field in goal!

In my minds eye I see Kerslake chipping him from outside the area and Speedie flailing about. Bloody hilarious!

Also I seem to remember we had a goal not given when the ball hit the bar and bounced about two yards over the line.

I'm sure this all happened but my mind is blurred through the fug of 28 years of Guinness.

Nail. Head.

I remember him scoring at the City Ground the night Lee Chapman looked like a good footballer and Clough thought he was Mike Tyson.

I might be wrong but i heard on the radio a few weeks ago that a guy spent the last few years trying collect the last few remaining players in his Panninni sticker book he had from when he was a child. He wrote a book about his quest and one of the players missing from his collection was QPR's Kerslake.
He achieved his life long goal, then threw the sticker book into the sea! as a symbol of leaving his hopes and dreams of youth to concentrate on being an adult.. and selling a book. I cant remember what the book is called. or even if it was Kerslake!

Happy days indeed. Highlight of the season for me so far has been Hitchcock's winner against Ipswich Town.

Laws actuaklly came back in the end and did well at Wolves for a bit I think.

Bare bones.

He also played as Sweeper for a few games in the days when we had 5 at the back.

He was an average player with some neat touches. But not really good enough for top level.

zzzzzzzzzz

If memory serves me well, I think he contracted glandular fever before he broke into the first team. Never had the same pace after that. Before that used to watch him in the reserves where he was very impressive bursting through the middle.
