It's great for his confidence. I'd definitely rather see him in the team than Davis.
But, the whole defence revolves around Fonte. When he's not there, the defence collapses and the goalkeeper is put in trouble. Thank God he's back.

Heard a bit on Solent and that was a bit of a rough patch for him in a goal mouth scramble, but did he get better protection from the back 4? Merrington was saying that they should do and also to give him a few slaps on the back when he deserved it. Sounds like it worked!

He's only 21,stands 6ft 5in and is slowly improving with confidence. Always makes me smile that he was born in a place called Murphy in Argentina.

One good save was counted as off side so didn't count another was a ricochet, the others were crosses he held or punched. There will always be critics but a keeper can do no more than keep a clean sheet which Gazza did to his credit. He has taken a lot of stick, so let's give him so praise. Even the Saints fans were singing his name, not sure of the song though " he saves when he wants"? | |

And that's a fair point, it's just seemed a bit Strange that people were lavishing praise on him and that didn't tie in with what I read on the media reports and on MOTD. I wasn't there so don't know, sometimes though people so see what they want to and not what actually happened. For example Nick praised Gazza for staying strong from the cross he dealt with but Having just seen it on MOTD it looks to me like he caused half the problem by punching the ball straight up in the air in the first place. I'm not sure he'd have been so generous If that had been Kelvin Davis. Fair play to th lad though, he did what he had to do and hopefully the clean sheet will give him confidence. | |
