Whats your top 5 comedies? 12:07 - Aug 30 with 15473 viewsbob566

in no particular order

father ted
only fools and horses (especially the early ones)
fawlty towers
spitting image
the royle family (the last two xmas specials were toss though)

and an honourable mention for last of the summer wine

LOTSW is controversial but I've only started watching these on Dave now. They were quite cleverly written. They're not split your sides humour but I find them funny.

I could never restrict that list to 5, I'd have trouble getting it down to 25 favourites.

I loathe On The Buses, Love Thy Neighbour and Mind Your Language (all three word titles, no wonder I hate Tony Abbott).

Can I mention one that hasn't appeared yet but really should? Malcolm in the Middle (Bryan Cranston deservedly got a mention with Breaking Bad). Oh, and list the previously mentioned Spike Milligna's sublime World Of Beachcomber and Q series (Curry And Chips wasn't so good).

Also, for antipodeans, Fred Dagg, Clarke and Dawe, Mother and Son, The D-Generation, The Big Gig, The Glynn Nicholas Show, Frontline, The Hollowmen, Swift And Shift, Fat Pizza.

Was thinking about adding MASH to my list. Brilliant series, certainly the best from the US, but some don't consider it comedy as such, just a series with dark humour and satire, not laugh out loud type of stuff from most shows featured on this thread.

There aint half been some clever bastards.

Have always loved M*A*S*H*. That and Spike Milligan's brilliant first war diary introduced me to wordplay and punnery.

Fawlty Towers
Black Adder
Alan Partridge
The Office
Seinfeld

I think this thread confirms Fawlty Towers as the people choice. I watched The Builders just last week for the umpteenth time and still laughed out loud several times. The script is just sensational and the comedy and program itself is timeless. They also did what few other comedy series have done ans that was quit at the top after only 12 episodes.

It's interesting to see that Seinfeld gets just two mentions. I know it's American but it really does have such a quailty script with the intertwining storylines and Jerrys observations are spot on. George Costanza is possibly my favourite comedy personality. And to have continued to have produced such quality over 9 years with 180 episodes in total marks it as a classic for me. Early quality from the great Larry David.

I've got the Power.

maybe a guilty pleasure but According to Jim on channel 4 every day - Jim is just a blokes bloke - likes sport / food /beer and avoids emotional interaction not cerebral but some of the husband/wife father/kids scenarios ring true and its the yeah I recognise that situation laughter
