Wenger on Rickie ??? on 22:18 - Aug 16 with 1848 views | PatfromPoole | Arsenal fans are going to go even more ballistic reading that. They thought they were getting Suarez and Rooney this summer, now Wenger is scouring the lower leagues.....

Wenger on Rickie on 22:21 - Aug 16 with 1818 views | Del_Bianco | He's got a point. There are plenty of decent players in the lower leagues who never get a break or clubs aren't prepared to gamble on them, instead they'd rather bring in a foreign player who is no better. BTW that's not xenophobia, its now it is.

Wenger on Rickie on 22:30 - Aug 16 with 1795 views | A1079 | Quite agree Del Bianco. If you dare to question the policy of signing or just chasing "foreign" players you are viewed as xenophobic, but I want us to be signing players that want to play for us, can relate to us and have staying power and yes, ability and potential. I worry under Ponchettino that the focus is now solely beyond our shores chasing people that have no desire or interest in us unless it is a last resort.
Wenger on Rickie on 22:35 - Aug 16 with 1774 views | SkateHater | He does have point ... Have never understood how as a prem club you can agree a deal to sign a player from abroad, and have to prove they are good enough to play in the prem and justify a work permit, yet teams in championship L1 & L2 can have foreign players . Personally I don't think it benefits English football any having foreign players that aren't able to play in the prem taking places in FL Squads ... shouldn't be allowed !!

Wenger on Rickie on 22:37 - Aug 16 with 1757 views | Del_Bianco | One of the biggest problems that football has in this county is every young star in the Lower leagues is snapped up by a big club, gets a big contract and never plays for their first team. Something needs to be done about it as so many good players have been ruined this way. Another thing is look at the unbridled joy on Lamberts face when he scored and compare it to the arrogant smugness of the likes of Wellback, Carroll, etc. Desire isn't a problem for the very top players but I certainly think that a lot of players don't push themselves on to be the level they can be at because most of them are spilt brats who have it all very early and never have to work and graft to get to the top, unlike Lambert.

Wenger on Rickie on 22:57 - Aug 16 with 1677 views | homegrown1964 | Had Arsenal, Man Utd Chelsea and all the other big Clubs identified what Pardew identified, ten or so years ago he would have played for England and a top flight side years ago. Lamberts problem was evident, his fitness and his weight. Once he got his fitness it added the extra 10 or so % that makes him the player he is today imo.

Wenger on Rickie on 23:04 - Aug 16 with 1665 views | Del_Bianco | I agree although in fairness I think he moved up a level under Adkins. Don't get me wrong, he was good under Pardew, but he was still a big boy and more of a target man, it was under Adkins he stared being a better all round player, dropping deeper and linking play up etc and looked a lot slimmer and fitter.

Wenger on Rickie on 23:23 - Aug 16 with 1611 views | homegrown1964 | Cannot disagree with that, l think both manager's got the best out of him when they were here. I think both got the maximum out of him and l suppose you need a big target man when you are trying to get out of League 1 as that style of play is more suited to that League. But once in the Championship Adkins got that bit extra and added to his game that was needed to get the Club out of that Division. If Lambert has the ability now he would and could have had it years ago, but for countless managers missing the blatantly obvious, his fitness and his weight.
