It's more likely Banega..he scored the winning goal for Argentina against Italy last night.

Osvaldo's agent rejected Benfica's offer last night, insisting he wants to stay in Italy.
Inter Milan are his choice but Roma refuses to sell him to a domestic rival.
Inter have made an approach and were rejected by the club.
Rumour is that Oavaldo may go on strike to get his way.

Were better off without this seemingly troublesome one!

fair play if you believe that, and it would be awesome to think we would sign both..God knows, after Rickies piss poor showing last night our first priority must be to replace him

SERIOUSLY BOTH THOSE PLAYERS HAVE TURNED US DOWN FLAT FOR A GOOD REASON

They both have thier sights set on the WC in Brazil, and they both believe that coming to us could put them out of the frame to be selected..they want maximum exposure not neccessarily maximum wages.
And I have no problem with that whatsoever

Are you saying that, as SRL scored a header against the Jocks last night, that we shouldn't be looking to sign another striker?

There are plenty of areas to strengthen before we sign another striker

Do you think? Like where exactly?

I'm not certain that Jay Rod can play the lone striker role in a 4-2-3-1 formation, his improvement last season came while playing the attacking '3' so that would leave us with only Mayuka as back up if Lambert is injured (we can't count Lee or Sharp however much some would like to as neither have featured at all during pre-season and will be moved out b4 the end of the window if at all poss) and I'm sure you as the forum's foremost righter-off of Mayuka would admit this is not good enough.

In an ideal world we would have a 5th first team CB or some backup at FBs but another striker is a must. At the moment we are reliant on a 31 year old staying fit/in form for the entire season.

We need another wide player, Lamberts goals dried up because we had no one getting the ball into him either with accuracy or frequently, Rodriguez is fast and can get the ball in but he isn't a winger.

Lambert will start, Rodriguez can be used as back up, if we don't sign another striker then name Sharp in the squad and see if we need him, he will be no worse than Mayuka.

Ideally we should be looking to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary, look to get an up and coming striker to cover lambert and push him for a place, to be blunt if we do spend £15 million on a striker than he will immediately replace Lambert (well after perhaps a week) you don't spend that money and not play someone, if that's the case and Lambert is on the bench he will want away in January.

I know all the arguments about squad game and playing for places, but in the case of a lone striker like a goalkeeper, you keep one happy by playing him and the other is unhappy, there aren't enough places to mix and match a player

Nick, it's been said a hundred times to you. We don't play 4-4-2 so don't need 'wingers'. How many of Chelsea's attacking players are 'wingers'? The passing game we play doesn't involve getting a crosses in from the 'flanks'.

For the attacking 3 players playing in front of Wanyama/Morgan we have Jay Rod/ Puncheon/Ramirez/Lallana/Du Prado and have played Davis there when we are looking to play a more defensive formation so that's 6 players for 3 positions. It's also possible that we can play Mayuka here so that would mean 7 players.

Which is why we won't be signing any wingers.

Striker is a far more important area to strengthen.

I think we need a striker too.
SRL had a great season but he is 31. That is quite old to be the main frontline striker in the premier league.
He will pick up more injuries and it would be good to have another striker to share the load.
I agree with Nick that it would be good to get a player to share the load rather than replace Ricky.
Osvaldo seems mercenary and trouble but would undoubtedly start most games.
I would prefer a Jordan Rhodes who would cost half the fee, and be prepared to play slightly less. Most top teams have about 4 strikers of quality that rotate depending on the game and opposition.
And when we do replace Ricky then we should get the best we can buy, as he is going to be hard to replace that's for sure.

Although dare I mention that right now reports on Twitter (I know I know!) say that the Coriella Della Sport in Italy has a headline that says "Osvaldo succumbs to Southampton" .
Apparently we have agreed an 18m deal and we are just sorting out terms.
So no change from the last 2 months then !!

At the risk of getting shot down in flames by SF73 for advocating signing a player from the Championship.......

I read recently that Spurs were interested in the Watford striker Deeney.

Powerful and pacey, I think he could be a good back-up to Lambert / Jay Rod, and I would have thought would be relatively cheap, leaving more funds to strengthen elsewhere.

Nothing wrong with signing players from there. All I have said is that we are very unlikely to be signing over priced English players from other PL teams. There are still some bargains in the Champ (like Clyne and Jay Rod were)

Some great finishes but what worries me is that his team mates don't seem to happy for him - is he the antithesis of SRL, that is a grade one selfish git?

also if he played under MP before surely they must have a good rapport so it should have been easier to tie this one, or he hates MP
