Golf on 09:18 - Jul 8 with 814 views | saint22 | Good choice Having been a competent regular player for 20 odd years I can highly recommend it Go for a set of Ping irons, second hand will do you well, steel shafts and take time choosing a putter that you like, its where the game is won and lost
Golf on 09:22 - Jul 8 with 808 views | Del_Bianco | i seem to remember you said exactly the same thing last year stupot. If you want lessons go to Matt at Chilworth, i had about 5 or 6 with him before i moved away. Really good and a nice bloke, goes to st Marys too. Charges £22 for half hour. Really made a difference to my game, especially the drive as this is the first thing he went through. Decent driving range and the course isn't bad for a beginer either. For clubs just buy a second hand set off ebay whilst you're learning, that's what i did. got a set for about £50 and added a decent driver, putter myself. No point spending a fortune whilst you're learning. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Golf on 09:30 - Jul 8 with 786 views | Boris_ | Indeed Del, as I stated in the first line. I've always wanted to be able to play golf well, it's just finding the time and having the patience the learn. Was thinking about Chilworth, a few of the lads play up there. I shall get in contact with him. Also, for learning I assume a steel shaft is best? None of this fancy bendy stuff? [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Golf on 09:32 - Jul 8 with 776 views | MytchettSaint | One of the most addictive things you can take up and also the most frustrating. To echo what Del said have lessons, you'd be wiser spending a chunk of any budget on getting the basics right than having the best clubs and being 'all the gear no idea'. A decent 2nd hand set off someone who's upgrading their clubs is what I did when I started (mine were mizuno but I'm a lefty so choice is limited for me)

Golf on 09:45 - Jul 8 with 754 views | StBaz | I wouldn't spend a fortune on clubs initially. Get some lessons - that's where the money is spent to best effect when you start off. Otherwise you may find yourself having to dismantle and rebuild your swing later when you progress. And don't try to bust a gut trying to hit for distance - get a good relaxed swing (all the best golfers make it look so effortless) and let the club do the work. A (2nd hand even) half set of irons and putter is not a bad start - and practise, practise, practise. Good luck - it's a cracking game (if frustrating at times) and if you take to it you'll have years of pleasure. You'll never totally master it which is why it is such a constant challenge and delight.

Golf on 07:18 - Jul 9 with 577 views | TijuanaTim | It is best to keep things as simple as possible; 1. Keep your eye on the ball. 2. Slow on the backswing and faster on the downswing. 3. Do not try to hit it too hard, focus on a smooth swing and accuracy - the distance will come. 4. Make sure you enjoy the few hours you spend playing, frustration is your worst enemy. If you have fun and don't concern yourself with the the score, your scoring will naturally improve. 5. Buy a set of Wilson (like) clubs that (if you want) you can easily e-bay later on if wanting to upgrade. I suggest, Ping putters, Cleveland wedges, Calloway and Mizuno irons and Taylor Made drivers. 6. If you get lessons which I know work for some people (not me), then don't bullschit with the pro about football/birds/booze etc. Just listen and make sure you are taught simple basics and that the pro is focused and not just going through the motions. Listen - don't talk. 7. When starting you will lose a lot of balls, so use reasonably priced ones. If you become more effective then buy any balls you want AS LONG AS THEY ARE TITLEIST PRO V1!! 8 Finally...pucker clobber is essential, if you dress like tool, you play like a tool, look what has happened to Rory this year. Pringle and Lyle & Scott is appropriate and the odd Adam Scott style Aquascutum, defo not Nike, Puma or any of that gairish stuff. Shoes, especially as your in England - 100% recommend non-leather Adidas, mesh golf shoes they look great, comfortable, practical and more importantly you can stick them right in the washing machine with your other stuff after finishing. They don't sit around festering like leather when soaking wet and dirty. Good luck - Tee 'em high and let 'em fly!!

Golf on 20:44 - Jul 9 with 517 views | Boris_ | Some good tips, cheers. I shall purchase some respectable clubs second hand and do some lessons at Chilworth. I shall be a pro within 3 months. We should then do a TUI Golf Day yes?

Golf on 21:13 - Jul 9 with 503 views | TheKraken | I had a rather enjoyable knock at the driving range straight after work tonight. Gotta love a bit of golf in the sunshine.
Golf on 21:43 - Jul 9 with 485 views | Del_Bianco | I'm playing Friday, meant to be the best day of the week too. Couple in the 19th after no doubt.

Golf on 22:46 - Jul 9 with 450 views | Del_Bianco | Of course he has. stupot is a successful Businessman who has many friends. In fact 8 out of his 20 football mates aren't renewing this season and on this thread he mentions 'the lads' who play golf at Chilworth. Incredible he's not played golf with them before.

Golf on 03:09 - Jul 10 with 418 views | TijuanaTim | Just off to Park City Utah next week for a six day golfing vacation, it is a birthday gift from my lovely, young honey. Playing in Utah at elevation is great as the ball goes a lot farther through the thin air and you feel like you have massive b0llocks. Trump National and the Riviera Club here in LA are great, however the best places to play are Palm Springs and Park City. Love the pristine and manicured clubs in Florida, but it is so humid the ball drops quicker, plus every course has aligators. Best courses I've played are PGA West and Southern Hills....oh and Victory Ranch in Utah. Do you guys walk or use a golf cart?
