He he. Not quite that old 49th. But I definitely saw 2 or 3 G&S productions at the Hippodrome. The Mikado for sure. I'm thinking 1965 -ish. My mother worked with someone at Rochdale Baths from whom she used to get the tickets. Wonder who the outfit were then ....

For some reason Heywood AODS staged several productions at the Hippodrome in the 1960s so it could have been them? Perhaps Heywood Civic Hall was being built? I definitely saw them do “The King and I” during this period.

Where I lived (Newbold) we had the last horse delivered milk in the country - was featured on tv at the time. The horse looked like Mr Ed and knew it's route by heart: where and when to stop and everything, without being led. It was a lady who was always out with it as I remember.

How many rushed to turn the radio on at 5pm when Dale were playing away? We should use this as walkout music....( its official title is Out of the Blue)

Had to put this up. Plenty of theme tunes with a 60's feel about at this time (The Persuaders, The Saint for example). I had to argue with my parents to be allowed to stay up for this series. Ahead of its time, and different.

Remember many happy days on Stoneyfield as a youngster. We used to cross the railway line opposite the Elms Pub as a shortcut.
Robert Riley's played there on the bottom pitch. The upper pitch was often used for cup semi and quarter finals.
Usually more than one game of cricket on a summer evening with teams from Deeplish.
We also made a football / cricket pitch at the old Sparthfield / Merefield Clinic when we were boys and the management there were happy for us to use it, with local dustbin men and police coming on for a kick around from time to time.
Remember Rob Finc, the Connolly's, Micky Ray, the Hennessey's and Pophams as well as guys whose names I can no longer remember.

There was a huge slope on that upper pitch, not just top to bottom but right to left too
The bottom pitch wasn't quite as bad
There was always something going on, especially during school holidays and the days extended to late into the evenings until it became too dark to play
Went to school with those lads, same year as Cyril Popham
Played for Robert Riley's along with billy popbam Dave Hassal and a few more deeplish lads. Rochdale athletic also played on the bottom flat pitch. Amateur league cup finals were also played there. Rochdale trades played on the top pitch when playable. Happy days
