Reading Sack McDermott on 18:02 - Mar 11 with 1209 views | StChristophe | I saw this coming - trying to run the Fat Duck, write all those Waitrose recipes, make Channel 4 cookery programmes and manage a mediocre football team in the home counties was never to work in the long run. Fair play, he gave it a crack though. Don't expect to see Waitrose maintain their shirt sponsorship next year.

Reading Sack McDermott on 18:20 - Mar 11 with 1172 views | 1885_SFC | So, that's 2 of the 3 promoted teams that have sacked their manager. Expectations seem very high amongst newly promoted clubs. Either that - or chairmen/owners are unwilling to keep faith in the blokes that got them there. Where's the bottle gone in football these days?

Reading Sack McDermott on 18:50 - Mar 11 with 1102 views | daib0 | Brian McDermott departs Reading Finally came ... perhaps still in the job so long out of loyalty by the Russian president ... but was it too late to save the Royals? What's your opinion on a change of manager at the tail end of the season? Quotes/Opinions from the Media: Inside Football It remains to be seen who Reading will bring in, but the new manager will have precious little time to guide the Royals to safety Irish Examiner He guided Reading back to the top flight last season for only the second time in their history but has been relieved of his duties as the club look to turn around their form in time to secure Premier League survival. San Francisco Chronicle McDermott had been in charge since 2009 and took Reading back into the Premier League. Reading says "in our current situation, owner Anton Zingarevich felt that a change was necessary." Daily Express The managerial merry-go round had already already seen casualties this season in the Premier League with Mark Hughes, Roberto Di Matteo and Nigel Adkins being given the chop. And McDermott, who for some have felt the writing has been on the wall for him, was given his P45 after a poor sequence of results. Reading Evening Post Brian McDermott has been sacked by Reading FC with Alan Curbishley the bookmakers' favourite to replace him. Joe.ie The powers that be at Reading have decided that they need a new man to help them beat the drop after parting company with Brian McDermott today. McDermott wasn’t known to be in danger of losing his job with the Royals, but speculation about his future at the club began to increase earlier today when the odds of him losing his job plummeted and betting was eventually suspended as his fate became clear. The Independent The decision, with just nine games of the season remaining, will come as a surprise. Despite Reading's difficulty on the pitch following their return to the Premier League there has been a well publicised good team-spirit at the club. And with so few games of the season remaining, any incoming manager will struggle to make a swift enough impact. ------------------- I think Zingarevich has been extraordinarily patient, he's been a 'fan' himself long before taking ever, ever since schooldays in fact. On forums, many Royals were talking about this openly late November/December. But has the loyalty been too strong?; I believe there's too little time now, but hope I'm proved wrong. McDermott has been a fantastic servent to the club, not only as manager but in previous roles spanning more than a decade. So pretty sad too ...

Reading Sack McDermott on 19:00 - Mar 11 with 1075 views | thedelldays | I think Di Canio will get the very short term effect they want he will have them fired up big time....esecially when they play us whether he would be good enough over a season, that is suspect

Reading Sack McDermott on 19:10 - Mar 11 with 1052 views | 1885_SFC | That's why they've sacked him now. Reading have Manchester United away - followed by Arsenal away. Doubt they'll get anything at those two. Then they're home to us... a game that they simply have to win - no ifs or buts. Best we see to it that they don't!

Reading Sack McDermott on 21:55 - Mar 11 with 879 views | Chesham_Saint | I agree Len. I remember driving back and listening on the radio the night they got promoted. The out going and incoming chairmen couldn't heap enough praise on the guy. Majedski actually saying he loved the man and he should have a job for life! Ok, a bit OTT, but any manager that takes a team up should be given the season. We're the reading faithful even calling for his head?

Reading Sack McDermott on 21:59 - Mar 11 with 874 views | UTS | Just seen he had the same amount of contract to run as Adkins (2015) will he be put on gardening leave ?
| |
Reading Sack McDermott on 22:12 - Mar 11 with 855 views | Chesham_Saint | This whole 'gardening' leave issue is getting a bit silly. I used to be involved in contracts and such clauses were usually there to protect the employer when an employee tried to jump ship to a competitor. The idea being the person resigns and then has to kick his or her heels for a few weeks/months rather than walking straight into a competitor (which is the sort of clause the skates should have had when Redkrapp sauntered down the road to us. Unfortunately of course the conts didnt). In NA and mcdermotts cases they should have negotiated any such clause out in the case of their dismissal - maybe they got shit advice.

Reading Sack McDermott on 22:21 - Mar 11 with 848 views | UTS | Yeah its been exploited in the football business over recent years. What concerns me the most in NAs case is that he seemingly was a dead man walking for months. The club waited until end of Jan on purpose so that his six month GL went into the summer. So NA cannot do a thing unless he resigns and so forfeits the rest of his contract the club wont pay. I dont know if that sort of thing can be claused out of a employment contract. It will be interesting to see what happens with BM and if hes paid up.

Reading Sack McDermott on 23:14 - Mar 11 with 804 views | A1079 | It is quite clear they are hoping a new manager now will have the new manager effect sufficient to prevent them from relegation. It is not good news for us when we play them in a few weeks. It could have the effect they are hoping for. Just hope MP knows and understands what is facing him. That is going to be such an important game and could be key to which way both our clubs are going.
Reading Sack McDermott on 23:33 - Mar 11 with 795 views | Chesham_Saint | Depending on the relative bargaining strengths of the parties just about anything ( legal) can be ruled in or out. Just Imagine if pep guardiola (sp?) was prepared to join, say, Villa, there's no way he'd accept any constraints like garden leave and villa would be happy to accept this just to get there man. Conversely a lesser established manager like NA signs for a (relatively) big club like SFC and they've got him over a barrel....

Reading Sack McDermott on 09:10 - Mar 12 with 728 views | thedelldays | if he has an immidiate impact, even for a couple of games, then maybe not looking at their fixtures Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool in the next 4 games with man city to play later... cant see where they are going to get at least 14-15 points from no matter who is in charge [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]
