Dennis Hollywood was playing full back when I started watching Saints.
He may even have overlapped with Hughie Fisher by a season but probably not. It all blurrs together for me back then!

Please forget you knew my name, my darling Sugaree

Dennis Hollywood's career crept into the 70's too. I remember seeing him in 71? In one match the front of his shirt was so covered in blood you could not see the white stripes - I remember thinking that his shirt must have run in the wash before I realised with horror that it was blood! (I was 8 or 9).

That was his final match for the club at home to spurs in 1972

To be fair although i do remember the game in question as it was my first season going to the Dell I have double checked it and it was his last home game for Saints but his last ever game was the following week against west ham at upton park

after that Ted Bates clearly decided things had to change, not just with Denis who after 234 league games was still only 27
