Sooner or later a football league club will go out of business. I thought it might have been pompey could be coventry might be QPR but it will happen and probably to one with prem history. Except you obviously wouldn't run your own business into admin and relegation for the sake of a bit of rent, so its not quite the same.
If tune group were to set a rent that meant we only needed 5k attendance to break even we would have no danger of ending up like coventry. It's the rate of rent compared to their gates that are the issue not necessarily the fact they don't own the ground. | | | |

I just can't understand how it benefits the owners of the Ricoh if Cov go under, it's not like its either a site that can be filled with better tenants or a site to be knocked down and built on by Tescos. Sounds the usual rhetoric about D-day which never comes. | |

Been said numerous times, particularly by Beard and occasionally Fernandes. A new venue to host all sorts of concerts, etc and with QPR as the "anchor tennant".
Seperating club from stadium is fine in the USA where leagues are franchised, or in Europe where local authorities supply facilities to clubs at subsidised rates. But in this country we've seen what happens when the two are split and the club falls down the leagues. | | | |

Funnily enough when we moved to the White City Stadium the club kept hold of Loftus Rd, which was used for offices, training, etc, and that obviously enabled us to move back.
No chance of it happening now though. You could put 200 flats on that plot of land. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Which bits has he filled in? Beard has said several times any new stadium would need to be multi purpose and even suggested a few months ago a ground share.
You don't need to be a Titan of industry to work out that the huge investment of a new ground would need to work 7 days a week to recoup the expense. That means restaurants, bars, cinema, hotel, casino etc.

QPR is now a business product of the Tune Group.
Entertainment (in theory) in the form of QPR can now be attained via the Tune Group as can hotel rooms, mobile telephones, air travel, motor racing, home/car insurance. A new stadium belonging to QPR makes no sense. Having QPR play at a Tune venue alongside Tune restaurants, a Tune hotel, a Tune casino etc makes sound business sense. Trips from Asia to London aboard Air Asia, staying in a Tune hotel, with tours of London and tickets to QPR matches must surely be the ultimate aim. | | | |

As I said before whether we own it or not is not necessarily important, it all depends on the rate of rent we are paying and how long it's secured for. If it's negligible then we would be fine if we need 20k a game like Coventry then we may end up in the same scenario.
If your also renting the space out to other businesses then there would be no need to charge the club excessive rent. As stated before Coventry's ground is owned by someone separate from the club, why would Tony wind-up QPR over a bit of rent when the money he would earn from the rent to Tune group would be offset by the reduced value of QPR when we are in admin or relegated?
Essentially you can't say "if we don't own our ground we will end up like Coventry" as it's two separate issues and depends on the cost of the rent etc. | | | |
