He was a great player but Lampard was a top player as well and is still pretty good and has been left out, plenty of other good players left out as well. Why has he released the news before the official announcement. Statement on BBC (below) says the BOA haven't even been confirmed to yet....and people say Beckham always acts with dignity (doesn't seem like it)
The British Olympic Association confirm they are yet to receive Team GB's men's football's full 18-man squad list.
The statement reads: "With respect to men's football, the BOA has not yet received from the FA the list of players who are being nominated for Team GB, so we cannot confirm who is, and is not, under consideration for the side. We are expecting the list no later than the early part of next week."

I agree that football shouldn't be included but as it is, we may as well make some use of it by giving players tournament experience, trying some of the younger players out etc. To be honest I'm sick to the back teeth of all this PR, image bolox that surrounds the Olympics. You can't take this in or that in or the other in, you have to buy the official Olympics food/drink etc inside at a massive mark up. You can nly pay with Visa. You can't use the logo, or even the London 2012 name, you can't do this or drive there or say that. The organisers wanted Brand Beckham involved and they haven't got him, which I think is fcking hilarious

You can't really take football out though - its been included in every Olympics except 1896 and 1932. We just don't get it anymore because we stopped fielding teams in 1974 onwards.
The only reason we have the "majority under 23 players only" rule is FIFAs doing as they didn't want the Olympic football to rival the World Cup in any way!
Another one of those things FIFA have messed with somehow!

Spot on Clive, Olympics has completly lost its ideals, fair enough to include what used to be ametuer sports as most are proffesional now anyway.
Just a massive jolly for the crooks that are the Olympic Commitee, 'blue riband' events next to impossible to get tickets for 'joe public' , sponsors & high priced hospitality about the only sure way of getting to the finals of popular events.
From info I have recieved some have caught a real cold in the higher priced packages, so maybe a few more tickets on the black market to line the pockets of our Olympic friends.
Deal with a high volume of deliveries in Central London on a daily basis, true nightmare trying to work out all the road changes and closures.
Looks like Beckham may have to wait for another year before getting his knighthood, good on Pearce not succomming to the usual 'media' pressure to select him.

I am really glad that Pearce has picked a team based on footballing merit rather than image and political pressure. Good for him standing up to the inevitable pressure form the 'powers that be'. It shows character on his part.
Beckham is a good bloke (alledgedly) and the nation is grateful to him for the work he did to bring the Olympics to London. But, as others have said, that is irrelevant. It would be a complete mockery of the games to be picking an althlete based on non-sporting reasons.

Because he is only interested in Brand Beckham. If Brand Beckham cannot be included in the Olympics, it may as well get as much PR as possible by announcing itself that it wont be included rather than letting the actual manager announce it.

i've been unfortunate enough this summer to have to deal with first UEFA at work and now the olympic committe and to say it's all about money is an understatement. I won't/can't go into details but it's really eye opening speaking to these people and the idea of it being about the athletes or footballers seems to have ended a long time ago.

Sorry but thats just not right . i personally know of a family that have been helped financially by the beckham trust after their daughter was left paralysed and permanently on a respirator after an operation ..its run by her mother and provides specialist care equipment to many people.
