Perhaps they were Q cars. The police always had fleet of unmarked,covert, undercover vehicles. Taxis, delivery vans even I'm told, a milk float. I imagine the same situation obtains today.

A few years back the Mrs and myself were strolling down the Southbank and decided to pop into the BFI and look int the media tech section where you can watch various films/ tv series.
We searched for West London and this was one of the listings so we settled on that and watched the whole thing. It was quite something to see the streets we walk now back in the not so distant past. Although this is more my wifeās manor (born and bred in The Bush me, rarely crossed over to W10 until I met herself) it was fascinating to see Wood Lane, Darnley Terrace, Ladbroke Grove back then.
I couldnāt say if it was better then as I wasnāt alive but Iām happy I donāt live in the slums they did then but hanker after the lack of cars and loads of pubs.
All things considered though, Iām quite happy with now.
