Been watching a few of the excellent season reviews of the 70’s, which correct me if I’m wrong are the responsibility of DaveB and Mick Leach features quite often popping up to score goals or provide assists. As a youngster back then I remember Leach well and sadly he was always overshadowed by the better known stars of that era. By the time of the 76’ side he was mainly the sub but scored some vital goals. But the reviews really did highlight what a decent player he was, never gave up, had a decent turn of speed, scored some cracking goals with either foot and wasn’t too shabby with his head either. And the way he brought the ball down on the touchline at Wolves in 1973 and in one motion flicked the ball past their right back who eventually brought him down for a penalty which brought out fourth goal, pundits today would be dribbling madly over such skill. Leach was a real QPR man and it was sad that he passed so early in his life. | |

I still remember his headed goal against Burnley the year we got promoted. He was written off as not being good enough for Div 1 but he still made a good contribution including the year we finished runners up.
He did all the hard graft in midfield but, as mentioned above could also show some good skill and a great temperament. | | | |

I'm another who would have had Mick in the side rather than John Hollins. That maybe bias on my part though!
Promotion season 1967/68 & Mick scored important goals in our last three games. The equalliser at Ipswich with (possibly) the last touch of the game, the first against Birmingham & then he made it 1-1 at Villa Park.

Well we do love a boo boy down the Bush don’t we. A low key personality who let his football do the talking. Rangers turned down a decent offer from Man City for his services which says a lot about the regard the club held him in. A very good footballer, not quite a star, but certainly more than a journeyman was QPR through and through. | | | |

Agree with all this…I think he was ahead of his time. In those days we were so used to literally outstanding players.. someone like Mickey was undervalued.

I liked Mick Leach but a load of people around me nicknamed him Donkey Leach. I'd like to think it was refering him to being a hard working reliable worker however he was much maligned and I could never understand it.
