Shelvey was signed for Forest under Cooper on £75k a week. I doubt Cooper had any say. He sulked when two US internationals on pennies turned up at the Liberty.

Shelvey barely played. Cooper did not pick him. Total madness.

Don't you remember his stinking attitude & lack of effort just before he left us?

I remember him scoring a scorcher of a volley from the centre circle against Aston Villa

One of the most entertaining players we've ever had. You'd never know if what he was about to do next would be sublime or bonkers.

All the talent in the World but mentally quite childlike from what I've heard. He could regularly be found just having a kick about with the local kids in Glais.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Yes the Liverpool match summed up his career in 90 minutes

Don't disagree with the general point about JJ's psychological stability, but I find the idea that a player would have a kick around with local kids quite appealing. I am reminded of stories from long ago (a different age) when more local lads turned out for football league teams and in their spare time did take part in kick arounds with people in the local community.

I also remember his statue like performance at Oxford.

He went to Newcastle 2 days later. He was never going to risk getting injured and missing out on that. They should never have played him.
