Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 18:43 - Jan 1 with 2046 views | Tomsyard | Because full backs push on and central defenders split which allows him space to get on the ball or defend if we mess up. I’ve said this before but it’s what he can see when he looks up as the movement is really poor in front of him so we end up playing by numbers ie wide central right defender receives ball, gives it back then onto left central defender and so on until we all fall asleep or we let them score. I’ve said previously that LW is a mid table manager and with this team that’s where we’ll finish. Stating the obvious but we desperately need speed and strength into the team and a proper centre forward as no team can play without one. And yes the goals conceded were shockingly bad at this level as was the first half Cullen header and Bianchini free header from 5 yards just before half time which could have set up the second half for us. I've seen a tweet where he says that WBA probably won't want him after today's performance and he hasn't had any contact, I've been told that he has. He needs to go asap but I suspect he will hang on to get paid compo when he gets sacked as his master plan has failed.

Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 19:09 - Jan 1 with 1838 views | pembsjack | He can't, same mistakes every week, players ability is declining under his management. If Coleman wants to profit from players, we need a coach who can improve them and get the best out of them.
Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 21:39 - Jan 1 with 1463 views | Tomsyard | He wants the team and MG to play that way though I think he should be looking to change things in that area when things aren’t going our way but I’m not sure he has that level of knowledge or it could be he doesn’t trust the players to adapt their game during the match. Perhaps I’m being unduly harsh on LW, it’s only my opinion anyway
Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 22:17 - Jan 1 with 1357 views | JACKMANANDBOY | These players struggled playing with five at the back, Williams swapped toma back four, Williams has now created five at the back by dropping Grimes in there.

Both should have played their last games for the Swans 2 or 3 years ago. They should be nowhere near the team sheet. Then there’s Christie. What the hell are we doing signing him ? Let’s see what these new investors are made of.
| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 22:51 - Jan 1 with 1224 views | vetchonian | so true.....always been a fan of Naughton but today he slowed us down and unusual for him looked to go backwards. My first away game in a long time....for the first time ever I left a game before the final whistle....the team to a whole were inept and didn't seem as up for it as Pompey.

Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 23:16 - Jan 1 with 1100 views | RichardO | They are asked to move in the the middle because of Grimes being expected to make himself available and drops so deep, but when teams attack us they target our flanks because they know Williams want the full backs to join the attacks or even bolster the midfield leaving the wings exposed. Playing football while an opposition press is applied really needs to be further up the pitch especially in poor conditions and that is where our midfield support for the forwards should be.Let the fullback learn how to be fullback first. Listening to Andy Robinson on radio Wales commentary he mentioned that Leon was quoted as saying he always looked to get the ball forward as his first option, we saw quick inventive football against QPR and ground out a result against Luton by putting pressure on them with forward passing. One of the things that stands out to me now is that when Grimes plays the ball back to whoever there is very little positive movement from him to offer a viable option to the defender or goalie once he thinks he has done what he needs to do, Britton would always move to provide options, the same could be said of Allen when fit and now we have seen Franco offer himself at ever opportunity. We have shown we can leak goals by the bucket load if we don't get our basic shape and movement right.
Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 23:43 - Jan 1 with 1037 views | JACKMANANDBOY | As Richard O says, it's about shape and approach. When playing in a back four as a full back I was nearly always told to attack only when there was space, get the ball forward to a better player asap, don't attack when our other full back is attacking and if you beat an opponent that's enough to create a disturbance in the defending team so look for a pass.

Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 07:24 - Jan 2 with 778 views | RichardO | As a dog in the midfield the easiest and usually safest ball when being closed down from our goal keepers goal kicks was to the full backs with one touch it allowed us to get up keep control of the ball and the full backs have the full view of what is in front of them so should know before they get the ball off the midfielder what they are going to do with the ball often with only one touch. One touch football to get the ball down onto the floor to enable control see the spaces and use them. If you can't win the ball cleanly just get the ball forward so your team mates around you don't end up back pedalling we are creating pressure on ourselves. Basics, it is not kick and rush it's about getting into positions of control where we can do damage to the opposition not self inflict it on ourselves.

Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 08:16 - Jan 2 with 707 views | vetchonian | As ever Rich you have hit the hammer on the head. A good explanation of how things are,I'm amazed after already disappointing performances and results in games when Franco has been absent that fans who have discussed his replacement by Fulton still can't see then problem isn't all down to the coach though he does have some blame. In fairness his subs yesterday were not different....ie Peart Harris for Fulton not putting him out wide then a further change in shape when Key came on. We are what we are a mid table squad with a rookie championship manager .

Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 08:54 - Jan 2 with 659 views | pete | whilst agreeing with you the manager to be fair can only play who is available and as has been said lets see what the new regime does, this current squad without doubt are a mid table squad that is down to former people who were not prepared to spend, if the current mob are simular this is where we will be got fingers crossed they will bring in people who will improve the squad time will tell AND a happy and healthy new year to all Swansea supporters players and staff
Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 09:20 - Jan 2 with 590 views | onehunglow | Keeping Naughton was always going to bite us. Quite the most ludicrous contract extension He was to be a good example to the young players . To me,he shows how you can BS a club into topping up your pension. Christie is another mad loan With Key and Tymon being so bad at the basics ,up one has to question the sourcing of players Only exception is Franco who has been magnificent only to be the first to be subbed in games. That should tell you all you need about this coach . It’s hard to look at him,let alone listen to the mindless drivel

Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 09:25 - Jan 2 with 578 views | jack247 | There are two separate issues here. We’ve got 15 or 16 competitive championship players. We don’t have any strikers who are at that level yet, though Bianchini is improving. If any of our first team are unavailable, it weakens us noticeably. I’d be very surprised if any other manager bar one or two right at the bottom has that issue. To be comfortably mid table in that scenario is very impressive, whether people like the style of football or not. But - he’s made his position untenable over the last week IMO. Presentations to Cabango about what we are trying to build one minute and then openly begging West Brom the next. I’ve said over and over again I’ve got no time for the likes of Whittaker and Obafemi, even though they are very good players, because they treated our club with disdain. Same applies to Williams here. The players surely can’t respect him after that. Just got to hope this goes through now.
Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 09:30 - Jan 2 with 553 views | jack247 | Naughton and Christie are presumably here because of the budget we had under Levein and Kaplan. Indications are squad quality will improve under the new ownership. Franco is routinely subbed and occasionally left out because he’s knackered. He works like a dog and puts his body on the line every game. It’s not a reflection of his ability. Regardless though, he’s burnt his bridges for me.
Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 09:34 - Jan 2 with 521 views | onehunglow | Morning Christie simply should not be here as is the case with Naughton and indeed Allen. We are not a retirement home . A knackered Franco is worth twice what the likes of Fulton are .

Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match day thread Game Day ! on 09:35 - Jan 2 with 519 views | 3swan | "We are what we are a mid table squad with a rookie championship manager " I agree we are a lower mid table team, and I'll question the rookie championship manager. Ok there is a bit, but he is now closing in on 50 games. He started at Swindon in 2015 and between them and Notts County there is 150 games. So 200 games as a manager Surely his reading of the game should be honed by now. Having the right players to play a system, or even in a position is a given whatever the division, so play a style suited to what's available.
