yes, one of the impacts of the Premier League is that players that used to drop down to lower clubs before retiring now no longer happens.
Probably money reasons I guess, they earn so much more before retiring or even considering a club such as ours.
But David Webb and McClintock were to the last I guess and Ryan Nilsen the exceptions, now Cookie, just shows what can be done.

Cook plays to a good standard every week but it's not just his age next season that is against him but his high wages. He is, reputedly, on double the wage of the second highest player. Computer says we could get another three Morrison type players for the money freed up. Colback is another who doesn't fit the current model. | | | |

We have a strict wage policy, so he will not be earning double the next highest.
The wage details taken from Capology and the like are mostly algo generated and based on published wage info from 4yrs previous. Cooks wages will be within the club's wage structure and not the stated 32k per week. | | | |

Exactly. Dave Webb left Chelsea who finished 17th in '74 to join QPR who'd finished 8th. And the season after he left them, Chelsea were relegated, while QPR finished 11th. He also beat Chelsea home and away with his new club, and of course came second in the league in 75/76 with Rangers - higher than he ever finished with CFC.
It was a step-up for Webb!

Very good signing in my opinion. Can't stop thinking what might have been, had we been able to capture him instead of him going to Notts Forest and playing a huge part in their promotion.
I hope we re-sign him, as all sides need experienced heads amongst the younger nucleus of players. Morrison is a good prospect and has performed well to date, but will have dips in form. It happens to virtually all young players. | | | |
