Could be it for Russell Martin 22:18 - Dec 4 with 7509 viewsKeithHaynes

Being told by a good contact down in Southampton that this could be it, the only thing stopping his sacking is the millions in compo that they will have to shell out.

Yeah but the process was to make Russell Martin a shedload of money for mostly failure.

It's working

As I said yesterday, he will either go tomorrow or after Saturday.

They really have no choice.

what did the owners consider to be his qualities when they appointed him in August 2021?

I suspect they bought into the "Swansea way" nonsense. Assuming that we'd only accept managers who played a certain way.

There's probably some justification in that. I've seen loads of people creaming themselves over Williams's recent statement that we're somehow "unique". Obvious nonsense of course. We're about as bog standard as football teams get.

Cardiff fans rightly get abused in these parts for thinking that they're somehow special and more important than they are. Plenty of ours also need to look in a mirror.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

The same guy who got us playing really attractive football for the first time in years ?
Who won us the 3rd Division / League 1 title ?

We’ve got eight games before we play Southampton, all of them are more important.

With any luck he’ll be sacked before we then and we’ll treat it like a normal FA cup game.

Paid to do a job be it as a player or a manager, then was going to be paid by another club, as you say he was looking after number one but in doing so heĺped the club, how many people in life do you see people looking out for themselves, it is human nature, players and managers move on some of them have helped the club get into stronger positions than they were before they took over, the legacy of some remain high even though they may have tried to derail that strong position by touting players, he got us results and helped us to get in a better position as a club that was hard to tear down even if he wanted to.
We have seen players and managers come and go, some helped as as both, some only as players but ultimately if they have not got the experience needed at the level they are working at and unable or unwilling to learn by mistakes they have seen made by them or others and cannot adapt to correct those mistakes then they cannot escape the scorn they receive, rightly or wrongly given the team they are part of.

People move on we will see what will happen with Cabango and Darling, will both be berated if moving on to better things even if it is just more money because of precieved betrayal of the club badge.

I wouldn't have given Martin a new contract at the end of his second season on the back of a couple of good results at the end of that season I would have like to have seen him prove that he had learnt enough in that two season to be able to improve the team and compete at the level he was managing at then, seeing positive results then and only then renewing/extending his contract.

Cooper and Martin moved on but it is very debatable whether they left us with a stronger team when they left looking out for number one but maybe their hands were being tied beyond what they found acceptable by the ownership.

I want to see us rip teams apart with no mercy no matter how many ex players or manager are in the opposition.ranks.

It’s hard to be objective and sensible when it comes to sport and one’s home town team.
I’ve said enough about Russ to last a lifetime but personally,I would rather us face him as a coach purely for petty revenge reasons . It’s not good ,but it’s how many feel about this chap .
I just hope ,if we do face his team,Lukey will at least be smart enough to deploy the obvious tactics

As an aside, Spurs gave a winner away at Muff purely by play faff football
Why do they do it ?

It’s possibly an intelligence thing that people cannot separate comments on football to comments about someone personally.

Yes I get that. On the day I’ll want to get one over on our old manager as well. Same with Cardiff game etc

I’m just pointing out we’ve got eight more important games before then and he may well not be in charge at that point.

I hope he’s not, because this circus over what was essentially an average manager is boring already.

It will be roughly a year from when Williams took over and we got absolutely annihilated by Bournemouth. I’ll be more interested to see how we get on in a comparable fixture now he’s had plenty of time to put his stamp on the team.

Yes he did , but who but a few remembers or actually cares that we finished 8th , he started the demise of the Club as one playing in the PL and for me that should never be forgotten., not only because of playing in the PL but the external factors lost such as a higher profile and real chance to grow the Club .

Well sign a contract and get sacked uite quickly, yes.

Not to get into it too much but he has this attitude as relected in his quote "I'd rather lose my way" which should leave people in no doubt about him. Getting results for the club and it's fans doesn't bother him, it's all about him and what he can do for himself.

I was happy when he left and now I don't give 2 hoots about him nor what he does. I hope we win the cup tie purely because |I want us to win, not because of him. That said, if somebody guaranteed that we'd win the next 8 and get thumped by Saints I'd take their hand off right now.

Good work by his agent tieing in an automatic contract extension on promotion, Southampton didn't have to sign it.
