Mike McIntyre 18:18 - Dec 4 with 3450 viewsBoston

Mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I was going to see him and someone wondered if he'd go over in Boston - well he did fine.
He's not my fav, little too middle-class, but sharp as a knife and can certainly hold an audience, which by the way, was in the Shubert, capacity 1600 with a fairly equal three way split of expats, Bostonians and those from other parts, I know as he had a little vocal survey at the start of the show.
Couple of things, met a mate who I hadn't seen for ten years and, the bloke sitting in the seat behind me turned out to be Wyc Grousbeck, owner of the Boston Celtic's, who McIntyre had met at a game the night before apparently, called him up on the stage at the end and unveiled the Larry O'Brien Trophy, whereupon he and the comic led a rousing few minutes chorus of 'Let's Go Celtic's'.

I am guilty, I think he is a superb comedian. Seen him a few times and he always makes you laugh about the most trivial things

Sat reading this I just got a WhatsApp from my son in law, in the Cheers bar, just round the corner.

Saw him a few years back here in Sydney and he was excellent. Kids were still quite young and it was a comedian we felt we could take them to see without things getting too "adult".

I know he's one people love to hate but we had a very good night watching him.

Does your son want to drink in a 'real' dive bar? Few left in Boston, but he's not far away from The Tam, which I'm drawn to like a fly to... Everyone I've brought in there loves the er ...character(dump). Definitely not on the tourist guide books, but safe, these days.

I'm not really a fan of MM, but the 'too middle-class' jibe is an interesting one. If someone were described as 'too working-class', they'd be eaten alive.

Son in laws flying back today, but I’ll sound out whether he’s still in the vicinity.

I've seen some clips of his regular stand-up on the internet recently and actually found it really funny. I think because he gets plonked on the Beeb so often as a non-offensive middle-of-the-road type we don't appreciate his full comedy repertoire because he saves it for when he's not on the Beeb.

Find him surprisingly dour on his WLS YouTube channel tbh.

You'd think if he was middle class he could find a suit that fits.

Hard working act, comes over as a decent guy but his routine wears on me after a while a bit like Peter Kay. Delivery over content I think is what I'm trying to say.

Always surprises me people don’t pick up on his extreme far right views

I guess, like humour, he keeps it out of his material.

Ba-dum-tss!

Not really my cup of tea. Seen him in St Albans a few years ago before he became an Arena act .
At Least he hasn’t resorted to doing podcasts on how to raise your kids unlike others.
Seen Nish Kumar the other week and Ricky Gervais a few days later .
There was a large chasm in their take on life between those two.
They both made me laugh though which is surely the point of comedy.

seen MM doing warm up gigs a couple of times; whilst his TV show persona irritates me (as does all light entertainment Saturday evening TV) his live work is pretty good.

He's very quick on his feet with audience work, which for me shows good comedy skill.

Saw Peter Kay at the 02 last night: slimmer nowadays but still funny enough although a chunk of TV theme tunes and advert jingle material seemed rehashed.
Seems like he’d be good company in the pub for a few beers.
