A friend of mine moved to Sharrow Vale in Sheffield a couple of years ago and now we use his house as a staging point for a Saturday at either Headingley or Trent Bridge. Ashoka is mandatory Friday night. Elite. The Reyht Spiceh Curreh is the stuff of dreams

The lamb dishes in there are something else.
Got it off a Sheffield mate as a tip, dropped in for curry for one during Doc/Fest, took a dozen QPR after the Sheff Utd game.
Will now be a regular fixture.
Probably after we've played Chesterfield.

Apologies
Can you email me screenshots please.
I think this is basically a combination of this site decaying and us trying to embed posts from different social platforms but I can’t replicate it on my laptop, phone or iPad so I can’t give it to techi for them to sort.

What a combo. It's basically self harm.

for those of you that regularly attend away games, has it generally got friendlier ? ie if you behave like an adult, you will be treated like an adult or do you still have to be wary of what pubs you go into etc.

After some horrible trips immediately after lockdown, yes it has.

The rants about rail travel in UK always strike a chord. Especially when I know i can take trains around France, in comfort, on time (generally), for half the cost.
As an example, just booked 2 tickets from Paris to Poitiers for 60€ the two, first class. It will take 1h 20 mins.

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one's lifetime." (Mark Twain) Find me on twitter @derbyhoop and now on Bluesky

I absolutely love trains but a few years ago my wife was gifted her mum's car and now we always drive to see friends. Makes me sad, nothing better than a beer and half of M&S' snack selection on the way to see pals but I just cba with the horror of the way home where loads have been cancelled, no reservations and being stressed af for 3 hours

Seriously brilliant reading. I love the awaydays, even though the official photographer post was made redundant ten years ago.

The Sheff Utd match was my first visit to Bramall lane but all the grim opp north cliches collapsed when I was told to pick up our lift after the match in the Waitrose car park around the corner...

It's not an away day we will experience for a while but a couple of weeks ago I walked down from Everton 'brow' passing Anfield on my way to a pub on the County Rd. I was blown away to see all the new houses and streets before the Kop end of the stadium, didn't recognize the place. If you ever went up there and came in from the city centre, you'll remember the whole area was a mixture of dilapidated slums and wasteland, absolutely stunning difference, kudos to Liverpool Council.

Poll: Thank God The Seaons Over.

Great writing Clive!

Can’t believe your Dad would make you leave 15 minutes before the end. That would have driven me mad!

All of us on here, to varying degrees, are a bit ‘special’, and I don’t mean ‘special’ in the way our mothers mean it.

Anyway, you seem like a good egg and this site is providing much needed humour during very uncertain times.

Great read. I only occasionally deal with trains outside London I must admit. M'colleague who I sit beside in T block would be able to empathise - have been getting recent updates of regional train-horror on the same trips.

I did experience a bank holiday trip from Whitby a bit like you describe, but that was massively saved by the steward who was manning the alcohol trolley-thing basically giving up trying to get through, and abandoning it outside the toilet we were leaning against, mumbling, almost imperceptibly "free bar".

It took a couple of minutes for it to sink in and then 6 hours of looting ensued with all sorts of people who wouldn't have normally interacted getting hammered and falling about on each other. But those things only happen once.
