This summer Millwall sacked their recruitment team and appointed Steve Gallen who was without a job as head of recruitment. Now they’re seventh. Just saying.

Surely he applied for the job at QPR before the board to give it to the kid on work experience?

Someone like Gallen understands the club. We now have this utter clown still wearing nappies playing Football Manager in his bedroom. Our club is an utter shambles.

What makes you think he's interested? We treated him pretty fùcking badly.

He has not signed 30 players in close season, recruitment successes and failures happen across multiple seasons we are still suffering from the splurge on Austin, Johanson etc, which left us with no head room then the failure to sell under Beale which left us with no money, so we could only sign players at the end of their career, one of which has been either crocked or suspended, the other one crocked, Cook the best of them all is not having a great season and Bergovic let go. They tried to correct it this summer by buying potential (which at least is a bit more long term thinking) but it's all gone pear shaped. These are 3/4 year old chickens coming home to roost

If you want to judge Gallen you have to do so on Charlton where he was for 8 years not Millwall for a few months

Didnt the club promote him to a role that was redundant within a couple of months, therefore getting rid of him became a simple task.

I spoke to him before a game after Les went and asked if he was coming in as DOF and he replied that he had to be asked first .

Gallen was there for six years, not eight: 2017 to 2023. So, let's do that judging.

Year two that he was there, Charlton won promotion. That was 2019. Between 2019 and 2023, Charlton had three different ownership groups, as well as one very acrimonious court case between board members and a rare failed 'fit and proper ownership" test. There was a transfer embargo placed upon the club in 2020.

Millwall did indeed, as you suggested, "judge Gallen on his (six) years at Charlton". They judged he was a very competent, experienced football executive who'd worked successfully in the most testing of environments and would therefore make a great DOF for a London club with a budget set in the bottom half of the Championship. All the players the club signed this summer since his arrival have hit the ground running. Because they fit the Millwall game model and he knows what he's doing at this level in a way that nobody at QPR does anymore, because nobody at QPR has anything like his experience, contacts, reputation - despite what they write on LinkedIn.

Pretty shabby treatment if you ask me. I always thought he was a good QPR man at the club.

Spot on. Fair play to Millwall, they know what they're about and they recruit accordingly. Not sure what we're playing at.

It wasn't great but Ferdinand wanted to make changes to the academy and it made no sense putting Gallen back in as an academy coach which would have been a bit of an insult. Shame he went but worked out well for him
