MC has got to go 21:59 - Nov 5 with 71169 viewsWilkinswatercarrier

Sorry, but that has done it for me.

You don't put a right footed player, you don't trust, at left back, yet leave your left footed defender at right back.

Fcking stupid.

A shapeless, gutless performance. Players walking, not challenging, arguing with each other. No shape, no desire.

Something has to happen and fast as we have relegation written all over us.

***having had a good night's sleep, I don't want MC sacked, I just can't sit through this anymore. I actually hate this club at the moment.***

Did you suggest Marti when it was obvious that Ainsworth had to go?

If so please can you post a link to that post?

If not, is it fair to say that not being able to name a potential manager is maybe not making the point you think it does?

Trust me you are not the only one who has recognised we have been on the slide for many years. I have been harping on about it for a very long time but feel on here that I am in the minority. Sadly it is money that has poisoned the game and if you haven't got it then you will slowly sink as other clubs investing in their squads pass you by.

We had money and blew it and then got fined and since then it has been a case of cutting our cloth. We had to reduce the wage bill so you bring in bargain basement players as even a couple of million is too much for us to pay in transfer fees. This gives other clubs a way of dumping their rubbish on us so we end up with weak characters and players who can kick a ball but can't do the basics. We don't seem capable of producing our own players. This club feels like it is slowly dying and who is out there who will take us on and invest in it and the playing squad?

Right now we are getting to the levels of budgeting that Wycombe and Rotherham operate on. If you pay peanuts then you will struggle in the Championship as this league and the Premiership are money leagues. Generally the clubs with the bigger budgets are in the top half of each division. Wycombe and Rotherham don't stay in the Championship with small budgets so if we think we can slash ours and remain in this league then we are seriously deluded. One win in the last 14 against teams who came up from league 1 highlights that cutbacks to the finances is leaving us with a league 1 squad.

Sell it to who?

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.

Completely understand. Seven of us sat in the pub after Saturdays game, all of us season ticket holders.

Only one of that seven attended last night's game.

It's getting harder to justify going, but alas, it's also getting easier to fund an excuse not to go

I'm not making a point I'm asking a genuine question because I don't see an obvious alternative who will get this squad playing better

Getting rid of Marti, for all the reasons that seem so apparent to people right now, is an utterly bananas idea. The LAST thing we need right now is further destabilisation. The injury issue is a massive one, and I firmly believe, although it will be painful, that Marti can and will turn this around.

Bad runs of form are part and parcel of new (or relatively new) managers getting to grips with the onslaught that is the Championship. But you have to give a good manager time. This is all part of the process. He's signed for the long term, he deserves the chance to get it right.

It seems he feels the same way:

"QPR boss Cifuentes '100% confident' season will improve"

'But you have to give a good manager time'

Agree, but genuinely interested in what your knowledge is of the lower divisions in Spain or Scandinavian football to claim he is a 'good manager' or if your position is based on blind faith around 6-8 matches?

Why didn't any high profile club snap him up if he was regarded as having such potential?

Why did he only manage in the 4th tier in his own country?

At which point do you say that whatever he may go on to achieve - good, bad or indifferent- that it's not going to work at QPR?

Few had heard of Marti this time 18 months ago and anyone suggesting him as manager would likely have been ridiculed.

Well, he's got to say that, hasn't he? He's hardly going to step in front of the camera and say anything between 'well, I'm 90% certain I can turn it around, though the other 10% is keeping me awake at night right now' to 'being honest, with an overgrown Nancy boy, a deconsecrated Jesus, a crocked Chair, and a 35-year-old walking red card in midfield when he actually deigns to play, plus our drop of Slovenian slop up top, my professional opinion is we're f*cked', is he?

As I've said on another thread, I think that part of his post-Boro interview about the club having a model and him having to work with the players he has was significantly signalling to the fan base that he's marooned! (Even though coaching is his job, if nothing else is.)

We have a bigger wage bill than teams like Millwall & Preston and they consistently out perform us .

The budget isn't really the problem to be a competent championship team it's who's in charge of the club and it's been the same for years .

Well it's been a thoroughly depressing 24 hours and I wanted to take a bit of time to calm down and assess and gather my thoughts.

So let's start with the game and set up last night.

This I think Marti got it very wrong but also Carrick got it very right.

Attacking wise, it was a huge mistake to start both Chair and then Saito on the right, both wanted to come deep to get the ball and a big part of the success of the performance on Saturday was that we had the out ball for Smith to go in behind the defence.

This in turn meant that Madsen was pretty much playing as a second striker, much further forward than against Sunderland practically alongside Celar in a 4-4-2

Boro also went man to man on Morgan and starved him of any ball in the first 1/2, this meant we were slower in possession Chair and Saito would drop deep, Madsen and Celar outmanned backwards and sideways pass the only option. Can't hit a striker, can't play over the top or down the sides. We were slow in possession, outnumbered in midfield flat and out of ideas after 15 minutes and it was case of see if we can get through to half time and change it getting Smyth on, going back to 4-3-3

Santos was clearly struggling against Doek and seemingly can barely kick a ball with his left. We were kind of getting away with it and Chair was providing cover, and then Chair gets injured.
The decision to leave Chair on cost us the game. He could not run, and therefore could not cover or defend and the left side was left completely exposed, they score twice in the next 7 or 8 minutes whilst Chair is still hobbling around. Game over against a very good and superior Boro side. We had a mini fight back, score in that 5-10 minutes of shots and maybe we could get back into the game, but we all knew it was game over at half time.

So what could the manager have done differently I guess is the question. I dont understand why Smyth did not start on the right. Without him and because Celar offers nothing we had no out ball. Left back, could we have started Saito there against Doek, hell of a gamble. Would Morrison have been fit to play 90 mins out of position at LCB and push Field to LB, maybe but you can see the choices all look pretty bad. He should have hooked Chair but again if the medical staff are saying he can run it off.. Bad situations often lead to people making bad decisions

The options available in the squad with so many injuries are super limited, most of the team played well against Sunderland. Have we bought crap players? maybe but its my view that if you add 3 decent proven championship quality / experience players in the spine CB, CM and CF of this team that even with this injury crisis (and last year we needed our best 11 on the field to be competitive) that things would be very different. In the same way that Warburton turned a side looking destined for relegation and Warnock a side he barely kept up after 4 managers in a season and got it promoted the following season with most of the same squad but a few additions that made a huge difference.

I think that in the full force of the storm Marty is making mistakes that is true, and that happens when everything is going against you. But our problem is not what we have, it's what we dont have and we are at least 3 players short. Sadly I think we are in such a bad way that regardless of manager, and the length of time key players are out, I think we are done because I think we will be so far adrift by Xmas and we are so unbalanced in what we have available that its very hard to see how we get out of this

Gary O’Neil could be available after the weekend when they lose to Southampton. He did well when he first joined Wolves, a bit like MC did last season. Not forgetting his contribution in the play off final.

It's pretty clear that the poor summer recruitment coupled with a lengthy injury list to key personnel is making it almost impossible to field a decent starting 11 at the moment. A change of manager will make little to no difference as the new incumbent would have to work with the same scraps. All we can hope is that JCS, Colback, Frey, Paal, Dembele and Chair return soon and we can accumulate enough points between now and January to stay within touching distance. Then use the window to make some shrewd loan signings (by ignoring whatever the man child's data suggests and recruiting players with heart, know how and experience).

What Marti said in WLS " “I’m 100% confident. I’ve been in situations like this all my career and I’ve always succeeded.

As if it's some kind of achievement to be in these situations throughout your career

When Derby were on the slide before going into administration, Mel Morris was touting the club around to anyone who would look at it. A reliable souce confirmed he was offered the opportuniy and responded he would take it plus a low 8 figure cash sum from Morris. Turns out that would have been a good deal. We might not be too far away from that.

Nobody at any point has suggested Marti is Pep.
Based on what he did last year, the evidence suggests that he's an above average championship manager.

Evidence this year so far goes against that, but while the degree to which you can hold the failures of this year against him are debatable, giving him credit for last year is not.

What makes you think that this board, with the evidence of what's been happening in the last few months, will not only be able to appoint another above average championship manager, but a BETTER one than what we have now?
