Moving to the USA? 23:10 - Nov 4 with 5368 views | thame_hoops | I know a few here are ex-pats living in the US now, Mark in Baltimore to spring a name. How easy is it to move to the US, get a visa etc ? I met a girl in Fort Worth recently and I’ve been over twice to see her, just wondered what others have experienced etc? I know Google is free but people here are always a fountain of knowledge and experience

Moving to the USA? on 23:22 - Nov 4 with 3777 views | thame_hoops | Thanks, I had a 10yr work visa when I visited more frequently but it expired and I now use ESTA. I was asking more in terms of a permanent move

Moving to the USA? on 06:21 - Nov 5 with 3452 views | Wilkinswatercarrier | I'd wait a week or so before thinking of going on holiday let alone moving to the US. For what it's worth Canada looks far more appealing!
Moving to the USA? on 07:57 - Nov 5 with 3308 views | stevec | Not to mention the split from Queen’s Park Rangers. Best of luck, you’ve clearly a lot of thinking to do.
Moving to the USA? on 07:58 - Nov 5 with 3307 views | ChrisNW6 | But I don't think moving to Canada will solve the long distant relationship problem 🤔
Moving to the USA? on 08:00 - Nov 5 with 3298 views | PlanetHonneywood | True, I'd let them get over themselves and see if they manage to avoid civil war if the spoiled orange baby loses. That said, having been in Canada for a month and listening to Mrs PH's fam and friends, its not all maple syrup and good manners over there. However, if any of our colonial cousins in 'merka have time today, I've still got three votes left to cast in North Carolina. The two remaining in Georgia can get in before 3 am Thursday. If Harris doesn't win, then it won't be due to the 14 votes I've got in over the last week.

Moving to the USA? on 08:57 - Nov 5 with 3167 views | slmrstid | You know PH, there are certain areas of the internet where someone, somewhere, will read what you've put and take it seriously about multi-votes I've only been to Canada once, but I loved it (Toronto). That said, as with everywhere in life, visiting as a tourist and living somewhere are two very different things.
Moving to the USA? on 10:17 - Nov 5 with 3052 views | PlanetHonneywood | I know, it was just too delicious not to! Totally agree on the living/touristy bit from my experiences in a few countries. But Canada, like many places, is changing and not all for the good it seems. That said: where is currently? BREAKING: Just got two votes for Wisconsin, which I just need someone to put in a box for me.

Moving to the USA? on 10:28 - Nov 5 with 3004 views | lassel | At the risk of sounding a bit silly, if you’ve had a 10 year work visa then you pretty much know the answer already? You will need a company to sponsor you for a work visa - it’s about the same difficulty level as it was previously, and internal transfer is always the smoothest process. Obviously depending on what you do, there are other types of specialised visa available. You can then apply for a green card after 2-5 years. And if you’re minted, you can get a visa to ‘invest’ by opening a business. From memory it starts around $500k, you must employ a minimum number of employees and the business must survive to retain your visa.

Moving to the USA? on 15:50 - Nov 5 with 2661 views | thame_hoops | I had a work Visa because at the time because I thought I failed an ESTA question. It said ‘ had you ever been arrested or charged?’ But wasn’t specific. I was arrested but not charged. Long story, ex who caused me a lot of problems so to be safe, I applied for a Visa and the embassy at Grosvenor Square. They said at the time I probably didn’t need the visa But it made it easier going on trips to the US as customs would never ask any questions. That expired so I use ESTA Now. The ESTA questions have now changed to ‘have you been convicted of certain crimes’. It was pretty vague 12 years ago. Thank you for your advice. Something to think about, just looking at all options. It’s mad what us men do for women isn’t it? Haha
Moving to the USA? on 17:07 - Nov 5 with 2524 views | Boston | Your mistake was not going before 9/11 and the subsequent rule changes regarding international security. Prior to that, Britain was one of only two countries that would not divulge its nationals' criminal records to US Immigration. Handy for some

Moving to the USA? on 18:47 - Nov 5 with 2402 views | texasranger | If you've been over to Texas twice to visit her then you must be pretty keen on her so I say give it a try. There are thousands of Brits in and around the DFW metroplex. I am one of them, moving thirty years ago when in a similar situation to you. Great climate in north Texas too!

Moving to the USA? on 20:17 - Nov 5 with 2259 views | Spaceman_P | dated an American girl once... the idea of living there ended that relationship. Married a Spanish woman instead and moved here. As other expats will attest, any move will be difficult whether thats far to America or somewhere in the EU zone. it's not easy by any stretch.
Moving to the USA? on 22:06 - Nov 5 with 2179 views | Match82 | Unless you feel strongly enough to propose, get married, then wait a couple of years before moving out, it's tough. Best guess as some others have suggested is through a work visa. Not sure of your line of work and whether that's an option. I was lucky enough that my company had a UK HQ but also had an office in the US and they sponsored me. Alternatively (check the math with a lawyer) you can do something like 180 days per year on a tourist visa. Can't recall if that needs to be split into two visits or not. You wouldn't be able to work over here during that time though.
Moving to the USA? on 23:00 - Nov 5 with 2127 views | acricketer | Once went to Fort Worth on business. Went out for a meal by myself and ordered a bottle of wine. They refused and then proceeded to serve me 6 individual glasses of wine. Go figure. The next night I was meeting a group from the company I was doing work for and the first to arrive at the restaurant. I was asked to sign a waiver taking responsibility for everyone's drinking! Texas eh!?
Moving to the USA? on 14:29 - Nov 6 with 1907 views | Sonofpugwash | Would love to go to California but I'm too old and crotchety now - especially in the wake of Trump's election and the promised clean up of the state. Can't help laughing after last night and all the lefty tantrums and meltdowns. Got a nice bottle of bubbly on ice for tonight's celebrations. God bless America.
