At the start of the season - I would have hoped for six points against Oxford across the two games.

I would happily take a draw on Saturday (and a goal!)

Good game preview. I lived in Oxford in the late eighties to early nineties and attended many games at the Manor. The Us indeed had a good side, and some great wins, although in truth it was hard to compete against the bigger wealthier teams. The Oxford admission price was higher than average to try to get the most from a small capacity.

Were you there when Charlo was playing for them. Were they connected with Rupert Murdoch or something.

He brought them in 1982 just as they were about to go bankrupt. I played against Oxford United In 1980 in a pre season friendly.
I don't remember much as I tried to tackle Joe Cooke as he charged towards goal, at 5 foot 8 and 10 stone I did not stand a chance, apparently it took two minutes for me to come around. Lovely man Joe he kept saying sorry!

I arrived in Oxford in 1987, the same year that Jeremy Charles retired through injury, and I don't remember seeing him play. Dean Saunders was probably the star striker at that time. though I also remember a few goals from Martin Foyle and Billy Whitehurst. However, the Us were relegated in the 1987-88 season, so I really missed the best part of their 3 year spell in the top division when John Aldridge scored a lot of goals. Robert Maxwell was chairman at the time I arrived but resigned shortly thereafter, and passed the role to his son Kevin. Maxwell senior took over Derby - I imagine he foresaw that Oxford's time at the top was going to be limited. Things then went downhill for the Us before I left in late 1991.

Interesting. Were you playing for Wrexham on 30-7-80? If so. some well-known names in that team - e.g. Dai Davies, Joey Jones, Dixie McNeil. Too lazy to try to ID you by checking Swans connections.

Edit. Or Crystal Palace?

Perhaps it is best to leave our forum members anonymous. I've discounted the Wrexham connection and my guess is a certain Welsh footballer who we're lucky to have joining in our discussions. He seems to like Millington, who however would be a bit older.

Robert Maxwell not Rupert Murdock. They were rivals for a time as Maxwell owned the Mirror and Murdoch the Sun. Maxwell was reported drowned while swimming of his yacht and shortly after all his business went bankrupt. No body wast he is alive

Conspiracy theorists say he is alive and well somewhere in Is as a guest of his friends in the middle east.

Wise sage since Toshack era

As stated in my post above, and later his son Kevin.

BBC did a documentary series "The House of Maxwell". It is available on iPlayer and it investigates his dealings with Oxford, and Derby. He also wanted to merge Oxford and Reading.

As for his death. He was not swimming. He fell overboard. The documentary explains the mystery around his death in November 1991.

Someone’s worked us out

For me it those stats reveal poor quality in the final third. Consistently. They've actually averaged more than 66% possession across their last 5 games - including 67.6% at Blackburn and 66.1% at Sheffield United.

But they failed to score in any of them.

A cursory look at their forum will tell you that whilst they have a solid defence and clearly players who are comfortable on the ball, their attack is blunt (and they are already desperate for January reinforcements).

It looks as though, if you get in front they'll struggle to break you down. They haven't scored a 2nd half goal since 17th August ffs (or a 2nd half goal, away from home, all season).

‘They're a poor Championship side, at this point. In fact, since Luke Williams took over there, only Cardiff and Plymouth (of the sides who were in The Championship last season  and this) have picked up fewer points in that time.

I think they'll continue to do their possession thing - and that suits us. Let them have the ball, do their tippy tappy 'we're better footballers' nonsense and then hit them when we get the chance.

2-0. Tyler early on from distance, and a 2nd later on from Ruben against his manager crush.

Both goals 'against the run of play'...’

We due a second half goal so it time for Grimes to hit the target. We got a couple of hard games coming up so we need a win here. I see positives that we have a chance of signing Cabango and Darling on contracts. Next level no but they could sell them for more in the future. Still a win for now for swans fans.
