Yes. I've previously cut him some slack as West Brom was his debut and he's acclimatising to a new country and league but last night, he was very frustrating. If a striker is passively waiting for the ball to come to him rather than attacking crosses to get something on it, it's odd to say the least. Tbf a lot of our play this season has been very passive with players not gambling or taking responsibility, so it's not just him. It's why Morgan has been a breath of fresh air in the last couple of games - showing for a pass, looking to get in the box, etc. It shouldn't be up to an 18-year-old novice to show that drive though.

Yes Dykes was better, but at the end of he day neither of them are good enough for this league unfortunately. The bar is so low...yet we managed to limbo under it. Only this club 🙄

At the moment we don't have an alternative to Frey, I like him sort of striker that battles and tries to force the game, the type of player that can thrive in the Championship. He has got himself fit and works hard, even though he runs out of steam. I liked Hugill perfect for getting stuck in and making it difficult for big fxxker centre halves. Celar will continue to struggle unless he can adapt his game, unfortunately does look a bit of an uphill battle for him to manage a transition. Most likely will be offloaded at the end of the season back to non-descript European football a bit like the bloke Mlaakar we had on loan from Brighton about 5 years ago, he was lightweight as well.

Dykes proved in helping us to stay in this League the last two seasons that he was good enough for this League,
Was Dykes good enough for a promotion chasing Championship club, arguably not,
Was he good enough for a club with our budget, resources & more importantly our infrastructure or lack of, absolutely he was, and this is a point I apologise for labouring for a long period of time,
Unfortunately we had a couple of good short-term spells and whether it be with the likes of Warburton or Dykes, we got carried away and got head of ourselves,
In a team with no leaders, a significant cohort of our fans, many on this forum, wanted Jimmy Dunne chased out of the club, you just could'nt make it up!
Still, if we get Colback back on the pitch, if Varane & Saito continue as they played last night, with Chair getting match-fit and if Marti can finally come up with a coherent style of attacking play, we should still make 16th and avoid a catastrophic relegation to League 1.

I have posted Dykes stats since he came here and every year he was scoring and assisting less goals every year. For Brum in L1 he's an impact sub that has yet to make an impact.
Does anyone think when Brum get promoted that they will still let Dykes play? No chance. They will sign a forward and force him out. The jokes on them though, as, of course, he won't go without a payoff.
We were right to sell Dykes, he was getting worse and worse and older and older. Getting £1m for him was amazing as his wages were not that low.
What we should have done is buy Josh Coburn from Boro (instead he was loaned to Millwall who injured him with their style of play). Anyway Celar may or may not be good enough, we can only know by Jan after he's played a few times.
What we do know is that not all of these new signings will work out.
Paul Nardi = Quality needs more time to adjust to the Champ. Jonathan Varane = Improving and could be Colback's long-term replacement. Dembele = Improving and could be Willocks long-term replacement. Saito = Improving could be Paals long term replacement.
Kieran Morgan = Looks decent, Jurys Out Hevertton Santos = Jurys Out Liam Morrison = Looks decent, Jurys Out
Nicolas Madsen = Does not fit any of our play and way off the pace. Žan Celar = Does not fit any of our play and way off the pace. Not looking good. Daniel Bennie = Dev squad
That means of the 10 in, 4 look good, 3 have potential and 3 look out of their depth. Isn't that what we would expect of transfer biz? You cannot get them all right.

It's harsh on Celar and you are right he's not had enough game time to be fairly judged but this is an accumulation of 10 years of signing poor forwards
His whole game just reminds me so much of other forwards like Washington/Bonne/Dykes who hide behind the excuse that we don't give them the perfect service and I'm just fed up of it
Forwards need to adapt, if the only way you can score goals is a pull back to the penalty spot it's likely the opposition know this and will be setting up to block those passes so you need to find a different way. They will have access to those youtube clips as well
I'll be honest I've just run out of patience with these signings who just don't fit into the team and cost a lot of money
Alfie Lloyd came on last night and just by trying to run in behind and close people down offered far more despite his obvious lack of quality

As everyone would agree that Frey is our best forward and this season has performed well how many decent chances have been created for him? He certainly does not hide and his positional sense is good but even so I cannot recall him getting many good crosses to attack……

Dykes is gash. We’ve signed Celar who is even more gash. Only at QPR could we get rid of a dud and replace him with somebody who is even shitter. What a club.
Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.

Thought I'd revive this vid of his goals last season.
A few from dinks (rather than punts) over the top, a few fox in the box picking up scraps, a couple finding space on right hand side of box, coupla pens, one header from a free kick.
I am no closer to knowing why he's failed to do this for us, but at least it reminded me the bloke does know where the goal is when confident.
His conversion rate must be quite good for the xG bods. Both the Plymouth and Luton goals weren’t easy nor Cambridge in the cup. A variety of goals there too with the one last season (Norwich?) the sort of goal I expect Celar to be getting and perhaps we will in time.

He must be better than his record for us. Forty goals in 95 appearances. Had a number of suitors in the champ before signing for us. Why do so many players who come herey underperform?

What strikes me about those clips is we don't tend to get that much action in the oppo box, where he appears to function. Of course we need to consider the varying levels of the leagues, but even then, I see us as faffing around with the ball outside the box a lot. I think we need to be more direct with our forward play in terms of quick balls through or crosses into the danger zone. The Frey goal against Millwall or Smyth's crosses in the second half on Tuesday feel like the exceptions.
