Set-piece coach 08:24 - Oct 22 with 1299 viewsPatfromPoole

Article in The Echo this morning confirms that we have not had a set-piece coach since Georgson left last season.

Have been winging it by the job being shared between Calderwood and Gill.

On Saturday, we again let in a criminally bad goal from a corner to cost us any points.

25 miles up the road, about an hour and a half later, Boscombe scored from a well-worked set-piece against Arsenal. As they did against us a few weeks ago.

It isn't that these teams have better players than us (though a lot of teams do).

It's that we are so amateurishly prepared.

Again, it is the basics which are costing us. Not clever stuff.

This is wholly on the head of Russell Martin.

It doesn’t need a set piece coach to realise there are two unmarked Leicester players on the edge of the box!!

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

He doesn’t need a set piece coach because it ‘s got to be all about him and his dumb control freak ego.

Its on the players.
12 year old's know to mark players on the edge of the box from corners let alone seasoned internationals..

It's probably because he secretly doesn’t like leaders who have their own opinion. Lallana would have organised them, he spends most of his time directing the game when he comes on.
100 times more experienced than RM as is said on another thread.

Please explain?
I thought you said you played for Southampton?
When you’re defending you look around to see what’s going on.
If you saw one player free on the edge of the box, not only two, you and your teammates would do something about it surely?
Basic defending.

Two games in a row it’s happened.

Or am I missing something Mr Hollywood?

I prefer to be called cock sucker than arse licker by yourself if you don’t mind.

It's not just defending set-pieces though.

It's attacking as well.

A team like us which is short of attacking threat in open play needs to be really at it on being a threat from corners and free-kicks, as Boscombe have been twice in the last few weeks.

Presumably Calderwood does defensive set-pieces and Gill does attacking set-pieces.

Or perhaps they just flip a bloody coin......

Another article in the Echo today about set-pieces.

Georgson is now the set-piece coach at United, who happened to score two goals this season against us from set-pieces…..🙄

I still don’t understand leaving no one on the half way line when the opposition Have a corner, this automatically takes out 2 of their players, simple maths.
