I don't really subscribe to the "Things were better at the Vetch!" nostalgia. The Lord only knows I witnessed some horrors there over the years. The move to White Rock has been a massive boost to the club overall. For nearly twenty years we haven't been out of the top two divisions. When I started supporting the club, that was a pipe dream.
I do agree that the expectation of instant success is an issue. I've seen many, many grumbles about how we should have done this, or that in the Summer, as if a team can be built in just one transfer window. The last time we got to the PL we had players that we'd signed nearly a decade before as part of the starting lineup. These things take time.
The coaches you know who have a healthy disregard for the endless, tedious stats analysis are a rare breed. I wish them well. | |

I’d say the atmosphere was different, there was a feel about the Vetch never encountered at Tye Liberty.
You’re absolutely right about the Forest game and I’d add the Leeds game as well but that was different to the atmosphere experienced in a dark Tuesday night under the floodlights with all the smells that the Vetch gave off (good and bad😁). It was almost magical and something that will never be recreated imo. | |

Sometimes we romanticise about the Vetch to much. Yes it was fantastic when it was was bouncing but I grew up there and through most of my early life it was often virtually empty and stinking. It was a place of its time and we have moved on, IMO for the better. [Post edited 4 Oct 2024 10:50]
