Gave an indication I believe that there is talk in contracts but not at a stage where they were hoping to wrap it up......although he did state(in a round about way) that there might be something in the pipeline soon.
Interesting to see that he mentioned free agents once again, it suggests that he is clearly still not comfortable with numbers and certain areas.....a left footed winger and Striker are the key concerns. | |

The very fact one person says one thing and then the head coach says another should raise alarm bells now.
They can sign to new clubs for next season in January.
Darling will go to the biggest payer, the ties he does have though, baby and wife settled, may play a slight difference. But a big offer will smooth over a transition and make it all acceptable. Personally I would watch out for the likes of Celtic, maybe even Rangers.

Agree with this. Whether talks have been held is not ambiguous. Never know, but it looks to me like Darling isn’t planning on being here next season as things stand.
If he walks for free, that is the sort of transfer cock up fans should be up in arms about, not a player who was on loan for a few months who then went on to be way better than his parent club expected. | | | |

Agreeing a new contract requires the consent of both parties. This season (and the end of last) he has played well and it's obvious that the club are trying to negotiate a new deal and have been for some time.
Blaming the club for Darling walking for free only works if he actually wants to sign a new deal. Considering that he spent quite a bit of his first eighteen months or so here on and off the bench as a result of Russy's defensive "tweaking", and now he's played himself to a point where others might be interested, then that's not a given. | |

No one should believe footballers when they are talking about contracts. They do not want to be seen as running down their deals in the eyes of the fans and will apportion blame elsewhere.
Footballer will often say. "I have not yet received a formal offer from the club". This means that the figures have been discussed and rejected verbally rendering any notional formal offer redundant.
Clearly Cullen rejected verbal offers but that has never been highlighted. | |

I thought Piroe’s fee was pretty decent.
We banked another six million in June from that deal.
We won’t get a sell on, he will go for far less than we sold him for.
I think it was a timely and financially rewarding sale.
As for Cabango, Darling and Cullen (far lesser extent) we will soon find out their intentions once contracts are either signed or rejected. In Cullen’s case he knows he has to wait until the end of the season. But will he ? | |

Absolutely. Some players feel they are destined for better things. That’s fair enough. He made it clear he wanted to move on and the club quite rightly sold him.
It would have been a disaster if he’d played out last season and gone for free. Same applies to Darling and Cabango to an extent. | | | |
